Sirius Sat Radio Receiver Location

I have been toying with the idea of trading my '11 for a '13, but I have a Lifetime subscription to Sirius which is applicable only to the receiver in my '11. Long story short, someone highjacked my account and when I finally convinced Sirius of the issue they moved my Lifetime subscription to the '11.

My question..does anyone know where the sat radio receiver is located, and if it can be switched to the '13, without major surgery. Seems to me the receivers should be the same.

Thanks in advance. The dealer has a '13 SG GT/CS..

The receiver itself, as far as Sirius is concerned, is in the ACM itself - the brains behind the whole shebang. You would have to R&R the ACM, then have it reprogrammed to the new vehicle by a dealer (unless the technology and audio setup is exactly identical between cars, and even then I think the VIN has to be changed). Not really practical, unfortunately.

You may have already tried this; but you can't raise enough stink to allow them to transfer your subscription?

Seems like a load of BS that they can't let you transfer it...iseems that would be the point of the lifetime subscription. You wouldn't keep the same radio for your entire life.

I don't understand, I know people who have membership and use the account on their car and portable players? Something does not compute.

You are right, in fact we have another Sirius in my wife's Passat and that was on a special two year deal tied into my account. We also had a home unit on the account, but dropped that since we can now listen on the computers, for free, as part of the lifetime subscription.

However, on the lifetime account, they tie into the ESN of the radio, in the car. If the radio was installed by the factory, the lifetime subscription cannot be transferred to another vehicle, it stays with the radio, in that car.

They didn't tell me that when I signed up for it.

The lifetime subscription can be moved to a new vehicle - you have to pay a transfer fee is all. Unless they made some major change in the last couple of years that says it is lifetime for your ownership of that car.
