Still irrelevant. My state does not have any laws regarding back windows but are very strict about driver/passenger windows @ 50%. It's stupid

Just joining this. Funny it was a great thread for the first few pages.

In CA, you can go as dark as you want on the back windows. Front aides and windshield, it is illegal unless you have a doctor's note for the front sides, and then it's only 70%. BS. This all came about from the 70s when a lot of cops were getting shot at traffic stops. Now whoever thought that allowing the back windows to be as dark as you want, was a good idea, is obviously retarded. And our tint laws haven't changed in decades.

To Joe, you *can* get pulled over in northern CA for tint, but it depends on what kind of car you're driving and how you're driving it. They don't mess with high end luxury cars or normal family cars. It's the loud imports, ghetto donks, loud muscle cars, and pos ricers that get tickets for front tint. I bought my Escape used with 30% on the front windows, which matches the factory rear tint. I've been pulled over by CHP a couple times for speeding, and driven by tons of CHP/police - no one ever mentioned my tint. I also lower both windows when I get pulled over though.

Bottom line, every state is different and there are a lot of choices, and your results will vary based on your location and choice of vehicle. I honestly don't like how dark my front windows are, mainly at night time. The difference in brightness looking out the windshield, then looking left/right, takes too long for my eyes to adjust to. So I want to do my windshield 70%. I like the darkness from the fronts during the day, but not at night But then again, my Escape is pretty much stock from the outside, and white, so it is pretty much invisible.

You probably can, but I'd say a very high percentage don't bother with it. I think the law has changed in California on the side windows not to long ago, didn't it?

I heard something thrown around about 70% being legal on front side windows, but idk if the bill passed. In SoCal EVERYone has front tint, so I never see people pulled over for tint down there. Up here it's not as sunny, so cops are more apt to be d*ckheads about it.

Thank you, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Maryland Law is 35% back, driver, and passenger windows. Windshield can only have tint down to the line on left or right upper corner of winshield or 5 inches which ever is less.

You won't notice a difference between them. Go with the 30s or whatevers cheaper if theres a price difference.

Does having the strip on the windshield keep the sun off the steering wheel?

I've never noticed, but I'm sure it would depending on exactly where the sun was.

Mine is 15 all around its great I love it. It's really the perfect tint for my car because at night it's really dark but during the day it's not too obviously dark for cops to be attracted

Apparently people think they only get pulled over during the day?
