Window Tinting
Window Tinting
I want to get my windows tinted but I have never driven a car that was tinted before so I'm not sure how dark I should go. I was wondering what everyone thinks of this and what everyone has done
You have to think about what is legal where you are and how the popo act to tinted cars........
Every mustang I have owned has been tinted its my first mod
Now that's a good deal! If you go 70 on the front it makes the 20 look a little darker just due to the reduced light coming in the front
I usually go 35% all the way around because I like to be able to see out just fine at night. I get 3M carbon tint almost every time because it always looks great and has a lifetime warranty that you can get service at any authorized 3M installer. I don't see 3M ever going away so it's win win. The warranty is transferable because it's attached the vehicle that the tint was installed on and not the owner. They even have the tint for the windshield that is 90% but cuts out all the heat. You can't even tell it's tinted unless you are looking at it through polarized sun glasses.

A good quality tint film will block the heat and not just the light so it wouldn't matter how light or dark the film is. It's personal preference really. I can't wait to get back to the states so I can have my car tinted. This is the first car that I have ever owned that doesn't have tint on it. You can't tint the fronts and I didn't want to spend the money on the rears because I don't sit back there. Not a big deal in Germany because it doesn't get hot, at all so far, so I don't need it.
I've had 5% all around before on cars and 20% too. Both I feel are too dark at night and with the GT I didn't want to make that same mistake. So I went with SunTek Carbon 35% all around (35% is the legal limit for the front windows here. Back can be darker but I wanted it to match). I also did a llumar ceramic air 80 on the windshield. It's clear but blocks SO MUCH heat. It changed my life!
I went 35 all around. I like the look of one tone throughout the car. In most locations/situations my windows look BLACK. If I park beside a white wall like one I have beside where I park at work it looks a little less dark and I've wanted 20 at times. But other wise in very happy with 35 all around
I believe I got 3m carbon. Get a warranty as well, find your installer and ask them about their tints. For newer cars you also want a good tint so you don't block signal into your car which is what older tints were doing with the metal flakes that used to be in tint
