S-197 Glass Roof Conversion

So I saw someone go through the whole process of doing a glass roof conversion on their sS197. I was inspired to do the same thing. A couple weeks ago I scored one on eBay for $1700. It was worth because I figured I would be able to find another one for a long time. Even though I struck gold I am having trouble finding a shop to assist me in the process…I’ve taken out everything I can to prep my car for the process…but now it’s beyond my scope of mechanical knowledge to proceed alone…and suggestions?…i live in Watertown NY

The glass roof

Liner and shade for glass roof

Took out the back panels and seats

Took out the liner

So I decided to take the saw and cut the roof off myself…did some measuring and got it as close as i could…taped it in place for now until I can get it to the shop😳

Pictures from the inside…trying to stay motivated to see this through to the end😳

Greetings and welcome aboard!

If you're unable to locate a custom installer/performance shop in your local area, I would suggest doing a google search and starting from there... You might also consider searching the sub-forums by selecting the search function menu located above on the home page... When the search box window displays, type in "Glass Roof Conversion" Hopefully, you'll then come across a listing of threads to help guide you in locating a custom installer... In the meantime, best of luck to you...

What a project!! I'm sure you will find success in time. Good luck!
I have to ask though, why not get a convertible? I understand NY doesn't get months and months of 'topless' weather but May to October should get you quite a few nice days.

Welcome,

When Doing a Glass Roof Replacement You Need The Front & Rear Appliques which are Now Gone. Have You Looked At The Saleen Glass Roof. It Appears it is Different Than the Ford One as it Does Not Have The Fillers. Might Be Worth a Call to See if It Can Be Adapted To Your Structure.

I Did Have a Temporary Idea For Concealment. Depending on Where Crack is and If It's Just a Stress Crack You Might Be Able To Have Roof Wrapped in The Meantime To Cover Crack.

As Far As The 09-14 Factory Glass Roof I Did a FORD Nationwide Search and No Dealers Showed any Stock on Hand.

yes the trim pieces are the hardest to find. I have a glass roof and I think the last two trim pieces that were left in the country, thanks to KC. Im eager to start on it but also really worried about something going horribly wrong lol.

no offense but it’s because convertibles aren’t as good looking as coupes and a glass roof is special unlike the convertibles

No offense, but in my opinion, convertibles are just as appealing as coupes... However, I also find glass roofs just as appealing, In the meantime, welcome aboard...

I have a glass roof car and I love it! I had an 05 convertible before that. I never pulled the trigger on a newer mustang because there was no glass roof on those newer cars

Me Too! It would be hard to go back to a regular coupe. Love the openness feel the glass top gives.

I have located and obtained a donor glass roof from a 2012 Mustang in a salvage yard; it is complete with all exterior pieces, glass, headliner, and sunshade. I will be using these to convert my 2006 Mustang to the glass roof. My only problem appears to be that the front and rear exterior trim pieces that fit between the windshield and the glass roof in the front, and between the glass roof and the rear window in the back, are no longer available; and cannot be re-used as they will be damaged when they are removed from the donor. If anyone has a pair of these trim pieces available, or knows of a source, I would be greatly appreciative.
