Glass Roof and Hail

I wonder how large the hail can be and not break the glass roof? Living in Oklahoma you can count on hail, and may have one storm a with golf ball to base ball sized hail. I keep my cars garaged, but at work I don't have that option. I can see one benefit to the glass though. Having a perfect, dent free roof all the time would be nice.

I don't know but this is the only reason i didn't order the glass roof. When it does break, its not going to be pretty LOL!!!

I imagine the glass roof is covered under warranty...and it certainly won't shatter when it breaks.

It's probably pretty durable. It's also made of safety glass so if it does shatter it won't cut you into a million pieces.

It is supposed to be as durable as the windshield.

But can I carry a queen size mattress and box spring on it? (You know someone will try it. . .)

Let's hope no one tries to tie a mattress and box spring on their convertible!

LOL, I can assure you if you take the car back to the dealer for warranty coverage for the broken glass roof due to hail they will look at you as if you are from Mars.

I get this stuff called insurance. I was in a hailstorm with golf-ball sized hail. I called the insurance company and they sent a guy to my house and counted the dents and then gave me a check. I sold the car to someone who didn't care about the dents, which were (mostly) not visible.

It would work with a glass-roofed car, although the details would be different.

I assume the glass is bonded on like a windshield. I bet it could be replaced fairly quickly. It's just not going to be fun. It's just an expensive option that I won't miss.

We had a couple hailstorms last year. One of my customers owns a Scion tc with a glass roof had hail damage across the rest of the body(some baseball sized dents) but the glass roof was fine.

Exactly.

People think the glass roof is made out of plate glass or something. Come on people, Ford knows what conditions this thing has to survive in. It will be strong enough.

Then they get the memo. They say, "Okay we can do this. No dents right?" Next thing you know, the new Mustangs are 5500lbs thanks to thicker dent resistent body panels.

How much weight would Line-X add to the car if I did the entire top-side? I'm 100% sure baseball-sized hail won't hurt that.
