Raxiom working on 2013 style tail lights with AM?
#281
if Raxiom and AM hasn't released a 2013 tail light for the 10+ cars yet, it kinda sounds like it could a be a trademark design hold up from Ford or they are having issues getting the light DOT approved.

Molds are expensive. You need at least 4. And then you need to make a LOT of parts to recoup the expense.
LED lighting like that is not easy to inlay into the plastic.
QC is an issue.
Haven't even looked at what trademarks / patents someone may be holding on them as well - in all, it is a difficult and expensive process, and so many times products that look good on paper are difficult to justify due to the break-even point being so hard to reach. Just random quick thoughts on it.

I think cost is the biggest issue. I really don't believe demand is as high as most people think, so it may be really hard just to break even. And if they can't get the price down to $300 or less, then the demand will be almost 0...

Bingo...
And to be honest, I looked at the same parts as well and determined that to do it here in the USA would be a very expensive proposition. Add to the mix that when you run plastic parts, you need to run at least a 1000 sets to make it make sense for injection purposes, and you can start to see the costs of doing them add up. I in no way am speaking for AM (Raxiom), just pointing out some of the challenges I can see from a short-run manufacturing POV.

Which wouldn't be bad, but still requires a pair of the OEM taillights at between 600-1800 depending on how and where they are purchased. So for anyone to tool up for anything in plastic would be very cost prohibitive - now in billet, we could probably whip up something that would then be black anodized or PTM-capable, and not break the bank, but to be honest, how many sets of those would you realistically make? Each additional set made lowers the overall price for everyone, but if you only ever make 10-50 sets, it's not going to be an inexpensive product.

Looks like AM is making it for 2005-2009 wtf!!!
After waiting for over a year I went with a pre-painted bezels & decklid panel!

I have found some Major ground to support this theory Internally.
Ford has it on lockdown for 14 years.

(give it a google)

It's just a design patent and reshaping the basic concept for the 05-09 cars would avoid infringing upon it. For the 10-12 it would likely be too close.
The expense of the molds, even in China, compared to projected sales is probably the sticking point for the earlier cars if there is one. The facebook link shows some prototypes, probably rapid prototypes or maybe rubber molds or proto molds at best. Even with accelerated tooling it would be at least two months before first shots. Probably longer. Then testing if they do it.... changes... rinse repeat as necessary, certification, then finally production and sales.

Does it make the lights harder to see at night and in the rain? I want to do this mod but do not want to be rear ended. Also did you have to take the lights off to put these on?
