I picked up my '14 GT last week and got it tinted the same day I bought it. I loved the look of it...except for the plain-Jane rims.... So while I put my money aside for some black AMR's, I decided to spice it up a bit and paint the wheels black, I painted the calipers too. It was much easier than I thought it would be, but very time-consuming. I'm very pleased with the results, and may hold off a while longer on the AMR's.

What kind of paint did you use? Was it just the "rattle can" type? I've been thinking of painting my wheels. When I bought my car the previous owner had painted them matte black, but didn't do a great job. So they need to be painted anyway. I'm on the fence about painting them gloss black or matte finish.

You really did a great job painting them. Looks professional and aftermarket. Painting wheels is where some really screw up.. You did a fantastic job.

Hey man, I took the wheels off, washed and dried them, sanded them with 320 grit sandpaper, washed and dried them again, I put a dark charcoal primer down(don't recall the brand), then I laid down 6 coats of Krylon black gloss spray paint. To top it off, I put a couple layers of duplicolor clear coat. Phew. It was fairly easy, just time-consuming. It all cost about $35.00 and 4 1/2 hours.

Thanks for the kind words Patrick, I appreciate that. It's not very difficult, you just need patience and it should come out right. I think that's where alot of people mess up.

I hate those stock rims, so blah. They definitely look better in black.

His post states he may save for some black AMRs.

no no no, I got that, I was just trying to understand if it was ordered that way or not, that's all. For example, I agree those wheels are boring, but all of the optional 19's are fairly good looking, that's all.

SilverSkoundrel, thank you! I'm happy with the way the turned out.

TheDivaDanielle, I bought the car from a dealer's lot. It has everything I want, except the boring wheels. I would have ended up buying new wheels regardless of which ones it came with though, as none of the factory options really thrill me. I'm kind of in love with the AMRs, hahaha.

Wheels look great but I agree the lugs do stick out a bit. Tint those side markers too. They stick out more than the lugs do. Have fun keeping all that black clean. Ha ha...never again.
