FYI: 3.73s see my 2.73s *** all day. You can get much power without adding gears. I like my long gears, as the guy next to me is slamming through gears to hang with me.
chirps through 3rd if I want it to.(auto/selectS)
You can gain more low end power with a couple more modifications(short headers, TB, xpipe(mid range helps too.), etc.
I suggest a tune. You can work with the programmers to shift and adjust the slip as you would like.
I am getting 32mpg on the highway. 93RH tune. with a baby foot.
I have a family member that has 3.73 gears and I prefer my ratio. I also have more mods.
Changing your ratio to a shorter throw(3.73) will keep you in the power band for your current setup.

The idea is to not break your tires loose, although it feels good
Some of my mods:
CAI, 73mm TB, port polish upper lower intake manifolds, BBK shorty headers (polish ported), frpp xpipe, GT500 mufflers, 93RH bama tune, JLT catch cans(passenger/driverside), Adjustable front/rear control arms, SR springs, STR.t struts and shocks, GT500 mounts, JM panbar, whiteline strut brace, Power slotted/drilled rotors, Custom iPad 3 installation, im sure there is more(etc.)
my CRAP, craps on others.....

Keep in consideration I have mods to increase my low-end torque, where the 2.73s lack @ low range RPMs out the door from Ford.

hmm.. I think what needs to be considered is the cost. Wouldn't gears cost a lot less than getting several mods on 2.73s to the same performance level as the 3.73s gears would?
and with the saved money, could probably get a few more mods and beat out the 2.73s easily at that point. And still cost the same or less than all the mods to get the same performance level as 3.73s on 2.73s
seems that way to me imo, but I haven't calculated the numbers so im not sure

I'm sure that with a 93 Race tune and all the bolt-ons you can find, you would beat a stock car with gears. The tune alone is rumored to drop 0.6-1.0 second in the quarter mile, plus an intake/headers/exhaust I'm sure you would be quicker. I also like the idea of a fast car with 2.73s for a daily driver, because your mileage would be awesome.
I have 3.31s and I'm probably 3-4mpg lower than 2.73s, I would imagine 3.73s would be even worse.
But like the others said, a tune and 3.73s together is the best bang-for-the-buck mod, which is I think what he's looking for (already has exhaust). You're looking at $1k to knock 1.0-1.5 seconds off your quarter mile time, those numbers can't be beat.

Look guys, if you put a 2.73 geared 3.7 up against a 3.73 geared 3.7 with the same mods, the 3.73 geared car will be faster. I've never seen a 2.73 geared v6 hit a 12.59 second 1/4 mile, but I've seen a 3.73 geared one do it. Best I've seen a 2.73 geared one do it is mid 13s.
