2010 V6 CAI from AM

Hello all. I am struggling finding a CAI where I live and the one I have equipped right now is already dead. Car keeps shutting down while driving.

After searching for a while, I found out that the best choice is to buy from AM but I can’t find a solution on how I can ship it to my country. Do you guys have any idea how I can get past this obstacle? It is a 2010 V6

I think the practical solution is to fix the one you have now. What is wrong with it? I am not sure how an intake can be "dead."

If it has a cleanable/oilable filter, you might want to clean and oil it. Here in the states we can get the supplies to do that at an auto parts store, I am not sure where you would get them in Riyadh.

Another potential issue is that the Mass Air Flow sensor could be dirty. It is located in the tube; you can remove it carefully and clean it with special MAF Sensor cleaner, then reinstall.

Not quite sure I understand your description? CAI themselves don't stop functioning, as they don't have electrical parts which can fail.. If the car keeps shutting down, this is usually a sign of an electrical or tuning issue.. Therefore, I would recommend taking your car to a reputable auto repair center and have your vehicle's electrical system thoroughly diagnosed on their diagnostic equipment, or you can connect a hand-held scanner/tuning device to your vehicle's OBDII port and check for error codes In the meantime, welcome aboard.

The previous owner installed a custom CAI which is pretty low quality. There is vacuum leak near the throttle body which according to the mechanic shuts down my car while driving. The CAI is poorly designed and he recommended that I get a new one. The MAF sensor is in good condition.

Happy to be part of the crew!

I already took it to a mechanic and he said there was a leak and its causing my car to shut down. Scanner says there is a Vacuum leak and the CAI I have now is pretty bad. I want to get one that can increase performance and not cause me headaches. Unfortunately there is no love for V6 mustangs in KSA and I couldn't find a CAI.

Thanks now I understand.

I think I would probably buy a stock one from a Ford dealer. There is not a lot of gain to be had with an aftermarket unit. But I don't know what is the situation over there with Ford dealers and parts.

Or maybe try on E-Bay, to find an seller that will ship international?

And oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

The one I have in the garage (JLT) actually requires a tune and it is for the 2010 so for it you would need a tune, and it will not run without one.

If you know for certain it's the CAI causing your vacuum leak? I would most definitely follow Bert's recommendation by locating a stock airbox over trying to locate another CAI.. As also mentioned above, there is very little to be gained performance wise with a non-tuned CAI anyhow.. Meanwhile, hope this helps out and wish you nothing but the best of luck.

The vacuum leak is at the start of the pipe near the throttle body. Whenever I rev my engine you would hear a sound near the throttle body which tells me it’s a leak. Regarding the stock air box it’s not cheap here. I bought a bbk CAI from American muscle and I found a way to ship it to where I live so that’s good news. Also it’s still cheaper than getting a stock air box

Unfortunately I don’t own a tuner atm and I am saving for one in the future. Maybe if I get a tuner in the near future your offer may still stand . But hey I got a BBK for the time being.

It would appear from your description that more than likely your vacuum leak was caused by heat melting a portion of the CAI inlet tube attached to the throttle body.. It's rare, but it can happen if the inlet tube is plastic and exposed to under hood temps long enough Meanwhile, good to know you were able to purchase a BBK CAI from American Muscle and found a way to have it shipped where your located, therefore it is indeed very good news.. I also agree that it's cheaper for you over attempting to locate a stock airbox and then end up having to pay for higher shipping costs in addition to the price of the stock airbox itself..

That being said, I'm very pleased that everything worked out well for you and congrats

Many thanks and I will be posting an update after I install the intake.
