Why are the GT500 Axle Backs so expensive now

I seen LMR do some dyno and decibel testing and I began to research further. I now have the GT500 AB and it sweetened up the exhaust note, especially if you’re supercharged. My conclusion: Ford got it right.

I just ordered my set of M-5230-MGTCA1 11-12 GT500 axle backs. As noticed by many, they are out of stock and back ordered until end of June. The list price went way up so the pricing is going up as well. I found my set through Summit and they price matched $285+ship ($310 total). I was on the fence of these or the quad tip GT500. I will run these for now, and at some point maybe mod for a Boss diffuser as at that point I can go between these and quads by swapping diffusers (I just hate the thought of cutting a pristine bumber).
I like others ordered my 2014 after seeing the 2015's. The 2015 is growing on me a bit, but I still greatly prefer the retro look of my 2014 and the Glass Top is an awesome feature.

I tried to order these today from a vendor that showed the old price and was told that they were backordered from Ford Racing until July. So this might be a temporary market adjustment.
This vendor told me that M-5230-MGTCA ("Touring") and M-5230-MGTLA ("Sport") were both readily available.
I hear a LOT about the GT500 axle backs, anyone have an opinion on the other Ford Racing offerings?

I can't seem to find the Boss quads anywhere... Where did you get them?
I purchased mine from buyfordracing.com (I think it was $795 or something like that). Unfortunately, it appears as if the pieces are no longer in production (which might be the issue with the GT500 ABs- although they come stock on Shelbys, and I thought manufacturers were required to keep replacement parts in stock for a number of years).

I believe the two-tipped GT500 Axlebacks are coming up on their 5 year deadline. The Quads still have a few years left.
There's probably some hold-back as well for actual GT500's that need replacements.

Funny. I also waited for the reveal. Hated it and ordered my car last February. The car arrived in May and I haven't looked back since. The fact is Ford is beginning to cater to a different market with the Mustang. Ford is moving away from the drag racer market and moving towards the road racer. If you read all the articles the NHRA is dying and Ford is just being smart. The S197 5.0 cars are the last true muscle car....................IMO

Just received my Axle Backs as well. Got them for a great price. Ordered some wheels and Track key at a discount. Cant wait to install them. Mine came with the Rubber tabs on them I called Ford Racing and they told me they have never seen that. They get these Straight from Ford and they think it is for installing on the production line. LOL

The tabs fit on the studs on the over axle pipes for assembly. They help actually. That said, I installed these last week and can't get rid of an exhaust tick. Everything is tight, but the ticking sounds awful and it's about all I hear. I went back under and installed the 3/4" discs to try it out and re-tightened everything, but no difference. I'm a little concerned the factory clamps on the new Mufflers bottom out and the two sides touch each other. I'm guessing that is part of my issue. Gonna let the dealer listen around under there since I can't track it down.

I think of myself as a a road racer, and while I appreciate the IRS, the reduced fender gaps and the new interior, the exterior is straight up fugly. I tried and can not get on board for the life of me. I'll take my SRA 2014 GT TP and track it all day long. It's still fast. Regardless of the rear axle design. Plus mine looks cool

I ended up going with the SVE bullet axle backs from LMR sound really good not quit as good as the gt500's but still sound good and are made really well They were also about $200 cheaper so for the price difference they are a good alternate for anyone looking for that style/sound.
