I'd also like your opinion on the track cal IF it did NOT include the lopey idle, 2 step, etc features. Is the "tune" part itself a worthy upgrade over the performance cal? I was under the impression that they were identical, but it appears not, unless your "feeling" things.

Basically wondering since you seem to be the first with both. If I were to never use the lopey idle or 2 step, is the extra cost still worth it over the old performance cal.
Quick answer....With TASCA selling the track key for 340 I would definitely get the Track Key over the ProCal. If you need the more expensive Track Cal then from a pure performance standpoint I would not spend that much more and just get the ProCal.

Forgetting pure performance.... if you experience the lopey idle you will probably want to spend the extra on a Track Cal just to get it. The lopey idle does zero to improve performance but I love it. Great classic high performance camshaft V8 sound and the whole car shakes. Hey it is ok to just have some fun isn't it?

FYI...my Track Pack car is running 5/50 Pennzoil Ultra and the lopey idle works perfectly. Ford Racing says 5/20 but when I wrote to them they said either 5/50 or 5/20 will work.

I had a ProCal installed last December. The track key tune is even smoother running. Power is stated as being same as ProCal and that seems accurate but they must have made some improvements since my ProCal purchase and install as the car runs better with the change to the Track Key. I am not sure if the Track Key is better or the ProCal software has also been improved as well.

I do like the stronger deceleration and the way the car spits and pops on deceleration. I also like the quicker throttle input. I am pleased with the purchase.

Thanks. That answered my questions perfectly. I wonder if the trackey/cal (I assume at least those are identical) was built from the original performance cal or if it was built from scratch. It seems like the ladder. Which would explain the slight differences even on the performance level.

But it is possible they have tweaked the original procal as well. Unfortunately not likely.

Hmmmm. Might want to jump to the track cal and just turn off lopey idle and forget it exists. Lol. And set the 2 step and forget it.

Sound like another call for FR is needed for these questions.

Ford Racing built the Track Key and Cal from scratch and then delayed to get the ProCal horsepower and torque into the tune.

well no luck for me again today. 2 different dealers over 16 hours spent sitting in waiting rooms and nothing! going to call ford racing on monday to see if they can help any. the last dealers was getting upset b/c i didn't buy the key from them and was giving my car tech work time they had to eat. I'm certain they don't want me to come back.

What a bunch of a holes! You didn't buy it there so they are pissed? You're the one that waited for hours......oh that really grinds my gears. The nerve of them. I bet FR would be interested to hear about that dealers attitude. Maybe Deysha can chime in?

That would suck. But I'm pretty sure I remember reading on the instructions that it's one by default, then once it's turn off, the next time you start the car it will be off until it's turned back on.

So it's not that you can be at a red light and turn it one and off on the fly. The change always takes effect on next start.

you could be right about turning it off. ill have to read through the instructions again.

I use to work on the manufacture side of the auto business specifically with service departments, i know their mindset and understand where they are coming from. it doesn't mean that you should ever say it to a potential customer. i had figured they might try this crap. plenty of dealers out there. good news is they already cut my key and didn't charge me. i might be able to get out of another dealership for real cheap. sucks that ill have to wait another 7 days to try again it like a carrot dangling in front of my face

Yup you might as well save you money. If you are serious about the supercharger, the track key tune will have to come off and will be replaced by a Roush tune, or something... The Track Key is only good with mods that do not require a special tune.

You can only have one or the other...

I’m happy to get solscooter’s experience at this dealer documented, typesredline. However, he will need to contact Ford Racing Parts at 1-800-367-3788 for any further assistance.

I have experienced the same, two dealers, both unable to complete the install due To system errors. Two techs that lost out on hours that they weren't able to charge. I haven't had my car for almost a week.

Interesting that when the Ford Tech line called my Dealer Tech back he told my dealer to ignore the Ford Racing instructions and walked him through how to do it. After the Ford Tech line folks got involved the Dealer Tech was done in about forty minutes.

Deysha. My dealer and tech deserve some kudos' for eating four hours of time spent trying in vain, on the first attempt, to use the Ford Racing instructions. McDonald Ford, Conway NH

I’m happy to get your experience documented for you as well, Nicul15. PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, best daytime number, and a brief description of the incidents.

FINALLY have it installed. new service dept was much nicer and even asked me to join the local MCA.

Still didn't go completely smooth. They somehow managed to program the regular key (the one w/ the galloping mustang) into the track key. the track key was a regular key. lucky for me it was an easy enough fix and i was out shortly after. the lopey idle feels a lot like my old man's 67 w/ a small cam.

THANK GOD ITS DONE!!

Got the Track Cal. Went to the dealer yeaterday at 7:00 am. They had it done at 8:15. And... they didn't charge me! I didn't even buy my car from them. I've never bought a car from them.

I love the lopey idle. Takes me back to my first Mustang, a 1970 Boss 302. Throttle response is great too.

I have learned that the lopey idle starts 2 minutes after the car warms up to 170 degrees. Also, if you stop and turn off the car, then restart it, the lopey idle will start back up after 2 minutes of driving.

One thing concerns me. My car has 13k miles on it. I noticed that since the tune was loaded yesterday, my air conditioning seems to cycle from cold to hot and back again. I hope this goes away. Doesn't make sense that a tune would affect this.

I'll post again if I resolve it.

Sorry about the emergency hope everything works out.

Glad to hear you like the engine braking. I was concerned it might be too aggressive for the street.
