Switch 5w20 to 0w30 or 5w30?
Switch 5w20 to 0w30 or 5w30?
Many 11-14 5.0 Mustang owners have switched from the non Track Pack car recommended 5w20 oil to either 0w30 or 5w30 and I was wondering if you noticed any changes in consumption, performance, engine quietness or fuel millage?
I've gone to 10w-30 and have zero issues with the engine. At least not yet. I'm just waiting for someone to jump in and tell me how dumb I am or how bad it is for the engine to run that. Yet the info I've seen on it seems to show that it'll be just fine with 10w-30. Especially down here in northwest Florida. Always hot and humid. 5w-20 is just unnecessarily thin for this climate
You were correct the first time. 2010 has the 4.6 4-valve engine. 2011-2014 has the 5.0 4-valve engine.
I switched to 5w-30, as I felt 5w-20 was shearing to quickly during the summer. We'll see how the oil looks when I drop the pan on my next oil change. I'm hoping it helped engine wear.

2010 has the 4.6L 3-valve
According to my first UOA report, it shows the Motorcraft 5W-20 is up to it’s task. My location is the Mojave desert and I’ve driven in hot temps up to 119* this past summer. This is my non-track/daily driver and it’s supercharged. I’ll stick with the Motorcraft 5W-20 until I see supporting data to justify running a different viscosity oil.

A long and informative read, thanks for the link.
UOA is a good tool that everyone can take advantage of regardless of oil brand/viscosity choice.
