Steeda CAI? Need experienced help!
Hi, I own a 2013 Mustang V6 and I am going to buy an after market CAI in the next month along with a tuner from American Muscle. I want the best of the best. I've looked at all the models through their site and notice that only the Steeda CAI truly requires a tune. That is what I am looking for. From what I have researched, required tuning on CAI's is because it has a 5 1/4" diamater opposed to a 4". There is another brand that says "tune required" but, when you click on it; it says "no tune required" where as the Steeda does.
Has anyone bought the Steeda CAI for your 2011-2012 Mustang V6? If so, is it worth the extra money and also, is it truly 5 1/4" in diamater?
Are there any other "truly tune required" CAI's I may be over looking?
Thank you in advance for any help.

As of now I think my safe bet will be to go with the Steeda CAI.

Steeda makes a great kit and you'll definitely be very happy with that set up. AIRAID and JLT are also just as good as the Steeda system, those are the top 3 systems IMO! They all require a tune, if the site has some misprints I'll make sure they're corrected.

FWIW - I have a Steeda CAI on my 2010 GT and love it.
Installation advice - the rubber seal they provided me wouldn't stay seated in various points, a little JB Weld did the trick. I also messed up the rubber seal in my 1st attempt at securing it, I cut it instead of notching it and it looked shoddy. I sent an email off to Steeda and they sent me a replacement which I notched at the corners instead of cutting and it came out great. It was at this point, once I knew I liked how it looked, that I applied the JB Weld to complete things.

Hello GSR Stang,
I’m not sure where they got the 5-1/4” diameter from. The mass air meter is only 3.422” in diameter and the velocity stack large OD is about 5.9” inches.
Also, yes we require a tune for our CAI ... our CAI is made right her in the U.S.A. by high quality made in the U.S.A. raw materials. You will not be disappointed in our quality and finish.
Let me know if I can help you wit anything in regards to the purchase
Best Regards,
TJ

Great Choice, CAI and Tune is always my first recommendation to anyone starting to mod their Mustang. This will give you the most beneficial gains, as well as drive ability and gas mileage improvements!

I bought my Airaid from AM based on the fact that a tune was not required .

This Airaid cold air intake system directly replaces the factory cold air system on your 2011-13 V6 and provides up to 13 horsepower and 15 ft/lbs of torque over the factory airbox using the factory engine calibration.
This intake was designed to not require custom tuning and runs perfectly on the original engine calibration. For even more performance, you can combine this intake with SCT custom tuning where gains of up to 25 horsepower and over 30 foot/lbs of torque can be achieved

tj@steeda, thank you for the reply. I love the look and the numbers look impressive. I have the 2013 V6. My only upgrade as of now is the Roush Axle Back exhaust. I am not even sure if I gained anything other than an audible edge. I want to use the BAMA tune and I use only 93 octane since I purchased the car. What realistically will I be looking at in terms of gains. Even if all cars are a little different, I'm just looking for numbers. One way or another I want this CAI. Thank you so much for your input.

I cant speak to the Bama tune ... nor can I tell you exactly how your car is going to respond to our CAI/Tune (estimating HP number is tough). I can tell you from our test vehicle and our dyno numbers that we have seen the following:
Combined with the required custom tune using an SCT X3 Flash programming device we have achieved dramatic power increases of up to 20hp and 30ft/lbs of torque!

Can you provide some more detailed info on the samples that were taken for the "up to" 20hp claim? What were the lower ranges measured in your tests? Did some cars, under certain conditions measure little or no gains over stock? What are the minimum or average gains that can be expected? This is the type of info that is more meaningful than "UP TO" claims. Thank you.

The dyno sheet on the site tells the story. All cars will see gains. The dyno sheet we have on the site shows 16.5 horsepower peak, but there are individual points with right around 20 horsepower and certain RPM points. What we show on the site are the average gains. Some cars may see more. Very few if any will see less as long as they are running 91 octane or higher fuel.
