Passenger seat cushion for short people?
Passenger seat cushion for short people?
The wife is short...can barely see over the dashboard. Anyone solve the problem of a cushion/other that can raise her up and allows the airbag to also function? 2011 Mustang GT passenger seat-manual.
Foam pad inserts for Boats work fairly well. You can find them in various shapes and sizes. Shouldn't cost too much and will give you about a 2" bump vertically...plus they are comfy and don't move around as much as a pillow.
thx for all of the ideas. Had a custom fit pice of foam cut. It works for the height, but now the air bag system stays off becasue she is not only short, she is too light. Seems the cushion is spreading her weight rather than focusing it , like without the cushion. WHat a choice: To see...without the airbag system, or to be safe and not see. LOL😁
Had a very similar situation with a customer at work. She was very small... Just broke the minimum weight to trigger the air bag system. Depending on the position she put the seat back in would change the air bag light on and off. Really bothered them and they ended up trading the car. Tried to explain to her multiple times that because of her build the air bag may do her more harm than good. Might be better having the air bag not deploy in those cases... I totally understand the benefits. But air bags are incredibly violent when they go off and are not a benefit to those with a small frame. Something to consider...
I bought a cushion off of Amazon for my wife. She uses it to drive on as her Honda does not have height adjust ability. She never brings it in my car but she has the same issue seeing over the dash.
Below is a link to an alternative mod to the unsightly seat cushion. It doesn't look to be overly difficult. You can vary passenger seat height, to fit your particular needs, by choosing different metal block thicknesses and replacement bolt lengths. IMO, make sure you choose bolts (that replace the OEM studs) that match or exceed factory shear and tensile strengths. The link suggests "Grade 8" bolts for safety.
