New vehicle break in
OK, I'm very close to making a deal on a 2014 GT Premium with Track Pack.
I've heard that they recommend changing the oil the first time after 1000 miles. Is that correct? Are there any other fluids or maintenance to do after 1000 miles? I might ask the dealer for my first oil change as part of the deal.

No other early maintenance is needed, and according to Ford the early oil change isn't needed either, but I changed mine at about 1K just to get the initial breakin contaminants out. Just gives me some added peace of mind.

probably going to be hard to find scientific evidence on the forums that changing oil early is better. Personally, I swapped at 450 miles or so to fresh Ford approved 5w50 and a new filter. Peace of mind for me.
I may have "recycled" that initial oil, or most of it, into one of my older cars though, so clearly I am not concerned that it broke down. I did only use the top ~4 quarts or so skimmed off the top to hopefully avoid any potential contaminants that might have sunk to the bottom
Depends a lot on how you drive the car though

x2 on @1,000mi.
It probably isn't needed, but it did give me a peace of mind. On a car I thought I'd keep for a long time, I wanted to start off on the right foot.
On my next one... Honestly, I'll probably do the same. Maybe I'll leave it till 2-2.5

I'm planning on 5000 mile intervals as stated in the owners manual, then replacing with OEM at the dealer. Warranty should not be an issue if the dealer does the oil changes according to recommended schedule.
Owners Manual Page 320
"Your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor® (IOLM)
system which displays a message in the information display at the proper
oil change service interval; this interval may be up to one year or
10000 miles (16000 kilometers). When ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or
OIL CHANGE REQUIRED appears in the information display, it’s time
for an oil change; the oil change must be done within two weeks or
500 miles (800 kilometers) of the ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL
CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing. The Intelligent Oil Life
Monitor® must be reset after each oil change; see the Instrument
Cluster chapter.
If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you
should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5000 miles
(8000 kilometers) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or
10000 miles (16000 kilometers) between oil change intervals.

I was reading bits and piece of my owners manual last night trying to figure out the ambient lighting and Sync stuff. I think I have a handle on most of that now. I got an oil change package from the dealer for an oil change every 5000 miles for 3 years. I'm going to ask if I can get my first one at 1000 because I'll never use all the oil changes it includes. They cover up to 9 oil changes in 3 years. I'll probably only do 6 (7 if I have them change it at 1000). Actually I may not even do that much because I don't actually expect to put even 10k a year on the car.
