Brian is correct. A converter would make a significant difference. Currently Circle D is the only one that makes one for the 6R80 auto but someone else will be releasing one soon. The Circle D is a billet unit that costs around $1,100.

Wow, I would have thought they made a much bigger difference. I guess I ll just go with some Mickeys Street Radials. How does the stall feel on everyday driving?

BTW......amI the only who has a wife who sees your mustang as the mistress......lol?

Even $1100 is a bargain for the huge gains at the track AND seat of the pants feel.

A stall converter lets you rev to certain rpm with your foot on the brake right? What else does a stall converter do?

A stall converter isn't just useful for launching hard by holding revs against the brakes. At wide open throttle, when the trans upshifts, a stall converter will keep the revs up higher (at the flash rpm's) when you get into the next gear keeping you closer to peak torque rpm's so that you don't drop down too far into the torque curve.

It also allows the engine to flash to its flash rpm's from a roll. For example, let's say you're cruising down the road at 2,000 rpm's lugging the engine then you give it a little gas. A stall converter allows the rpm's to slip higher than a stock converter so you get closer to peak torque rpm's even quicker (and without necessarily having the trans downshift, unless you mash to pedal to the floor).

Basically, a stall converter gets you - and keeps you - in the car's peak powerband.

DS will not give you any HP gain. it will however reduce the drag from your engine to the wheels.

Thanks Five Oh, your explanation just convinced me for my next mod after some traction. So as someone else previously said, Circle D is the only TC available for the 2011-2013 mustang auto tansmissions, right? Now what could I be looking at for installation of a TC? Last thing, is there a street tire that will make a big traction differnece over the stock perrellis (nittos, dunlop, etc.) Or is my best bet some street radials?

Hold off on the converter for a few weeks. There is a new player about to release one. But the Circle D is a great choice. Installation should be around $300 and you'll need a retune. Drag radials foe sure.

Hmm. So what needs to change in the tune? I would imagine not all tuners will have experience tuning to stall converters right? Any advice on who would be best? Does steeda do this often?

I paid $250 for a TC swap in my '07 GT. A tune isn't required, but is the right way to maximize gains. A good tuner will change the tune to command converter lock-up at WOT around a half second after upshifts in 3rd through 6th gears to pull harder in each of those gears. Also good to change upshift/downshift mph/rpm threshholds to hold gears longer. A little more line pressure for firmer shifts (but not too firm) is a welcome change, as well. Sometimes I miss having a finely tuned automatic!

No! Steeda's only weakness is their stalled , Auto tuning. It doesn't exist. Amazon in Anderson, South Carolina is excellent with Stalled, Auto, 5.0s
