How to spend my upgrade budget

I have a $2K budget for mods. My car is a 2012 GT--manual, Brembo package and 3.73s. No modifications. I'm considering the FRPP Power Pack--GT500 axle backs, high flow K&N filter and mild tune--and an MGW shifter. The Power Pack is advertised as a 16hp increase, more torque, better throttle response and it removes that infernal skip shift "feature." The new mufflers sound great in the videos posted around the web. I figure parts and labor for the PP should run me a little under a grand, and then another $500 to purchase and install the MGW (currently renting a house with no garage). I want to protect the warranty, which is why I chose the PP over the Boss intake package from AM with CAI and Bama tune. I would like to get other ideas on how to apply my budget. Also, anyone have any recommendations for dealers or tuners in Northern Alabama?

Hard to tell you what to mod since you don't wanna void warranty... Really you would be limited to cosmetic mods... And you definitely don't want a tuner if you wanna keep motor/powertrain warranty

Do the work yourself and save a few bucks more for modding. Like said above. It's hard to mod with avoiding the warranty

According to FRPP website, if Ford does the tune with FRPP provided PROCAL then you're safe. Maybe I misunderstood it.

Many threads on this subject. In short even the FRPP pack would void your warranty. Read the fine print.

Okay fine. Y'all convinced me. How do I spend it if I ignore the warranty?

Get a steeda 93 tune with their cai. They went 11s on drag radials with tune and cai only. I've had a steeda 93 tune and cai since 1000 miles. I broke in the car the first thousand miles making sure everything was going to hold together. I changed the oil to a base 4 synthetic, installed the cai and tune & never looked back. I now have 11,700 miles and the car couldn't be stronger.

Tune (VMP, AED, BBR...)
CAI Intake (JLT, Steeda, AiRaid...)
LT's (SW's, ARH....)
Mid Pipe (H, X...)
Mufflers (GT500, ROUSH, Borla...)

Pushing the $$$$ limit, but well worth the power gain!

2012 Black GT,

Great choice with mods, You will be very happy with all of them!

The FRPP Power Pack is a sick set up. I am confident that you will gain great power/torque & love the kit!

The boss power pack is great as well, I don't think that this kit will void your warranty either. The manifold comes factory on the BOSS 302, Dealerships don't bother anybody about CAI's. As far as the SCT tuner goes with the BAMA tunes, there is many long threads about this topic. No dealership is the same, most people just return there car to stock when they take it in for warranty work! In order to void a warranty the dealership will have to have cold hard proof that the modification's caused the problem(what ever it is in the shop for).

The benefit from the boss power pack is that it comes with our SCT SF3 loaded with hand written custom tunes from bama. When purchasing this kit you are automatically enrolled in our Free tunes for life program. Whenever you add a new mod all you have to do is give us a call & we will email you a revised file!

I hope this helps make your decision a little easier. If you have any further questions about what we have to offer Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 10AM-3PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

Regarding the ProCal in the FRPP, when installed by the dealer Ford Racing covers your power train for 3 years/36K miles from the date/mileage your new vehicle warranty begins (if you've had the car 3 months and put 3000 miles on it, subtract that). Doesn't void your warranty. After this is up your 5/60 powertrain warranty is still in effect. However if you then have a warranty claim and the tune is deemed the culprit, your claim will be denied.

If you do an advanced title search for ProCal or Ford Racing you'll come across a few threads. I think it's a great tune all things considered. Adds ~ 60 # of torque @ 1500 rpm, and the mufflers are perfect for me.

If interested, look over and print off all the warranty info on the Ford Racing site then take it to your dealer and go over it with the Service Mgr.

American Muscle offers a type of warranty against a #8 cyl failure for their BAMA tunes but I can't tell you much more than that.

As far as I know, no other tuner will cover you.

The general concensus is that a dealer or Ford rep can easily tell if you've removed your tune and reflashed the ecu prior to a warranty claim.

I've no issue whatsoever with the stock shifter. My other mod $ went into suspension, wheels and tires, but w/Brembo pack that's likely not a concern of yours. Another thought is a driveshaft. Good alum w/CV is ~$750, cf twice that.

Thank you to everyone. This is really great information, and is making my decision to go with the FRPP tune and mufflers easier. Anyone know of a performance minded (Ford Motorsport) dealer in Northern Alabama? My local dealer didn't have any idea what I was asking about, even after I showed them the package on the FRPP website. I called a large dealer in Huntsville, and while they knew of the package, they would have to order through another dealer and pass the double mark up to me. I would like to find a dealer/service department that regularly sells and installs FRPP upgrades.

Thanks for the Steeda props and glad to hear you are satisfied!

Many aftermarket tuners sell the FRPP kit you're looking for

We sell a great air intake with a no tune option or even a CAI/Tuner combo for your car. Best off we are right in your backyard! We're located in SE Huntsville and we recommend Woody Anderson Ford for service work as we work hand in hand with them on our new CAI/Tune development and they are a mod friendly dealer. We may be going to the dyno in Huntsville this weekend with a new 2013 GT500 if you wanna come out and meet us or possibly have your car baselined and tuned.

Give us a ring and we'll gladly go over what we can offer you and do for your car.

Thanks!! Lee

Thank you. I didn't realize y'all were right here. Woody Anderson serviced my '02 GT and I was pretty happy with them. Appreciate the information.
