I just swapped out the stock axle backs for the GT500s. A lot of people say the trick is to drop the panhard or loosen the mid-pipe, but I found another trick is to unclamp the muffler from the mid-pipe and then slide the muffler toward the rear of the car as far as possible on the hangers. That exposes one of the front hanger bolts that is above the muffler. Unbolt the front hanger from the car (two bolts on the passenger side and three on the driver side) and the muffler drops straight down. All the bolts are 13mm. Transfer the front hanger to the new mufflers off the car and then reverse the removal process to install. No need to mess with the suspension or the h-pipe. I saw this tip somewhere else but forget where. Worked great.
These axle backs sound great, not too loud, and are very reasonably priced. This is the way a Mustang should sound. Thanks to AmericanMuscle for the quick shipping and nice website, and thanks to everyone on the forum for the advice and recommendation. Very happy and so is the wife (it's her car so that's a good thing).
2012 GT - mods so far: GT500 axle backs, GT500 splash guards, Bondra Performance Engineering EZ Clutch Pedal Extension, OEM all-weather floor mats, windshield banner decal from AM. Next: Boss 302 fascia and splitter. I've got the bug.
Stock muffer is on the right. Looks like an optical illusion but the tips on the GT500s are actually about 1/4-inch shorter than the stock GT mufflers, which I found surprising.

I love that the tips are shorter. Some people like them to stick out, but I like them nice and tucked up in the fascia. The wider tucked look is better to me.

I am sorry but I disagree. I have had my gt500s on for over a year... I loved them. But then I heard the borla s types in person from a buddy of mine. It was game over. Now this might just be opinion....but.....I think the borla s types sound far better than the gt500s. Both are great...but the s types are a "whole notha level" hehe

As far as I could tell the mufflers are the same size. The GT500 tips are wider.

The GT500 tips are larger in diameter. The GT500's have a 4" diameter. The stockers are smaller...

So since i posted thread back when i got my gt-500 sport mufflers i thought i would update with what i have found out today
Back in the summer of 2012 i purchased a set of the M5230MGTLA's and couldn't have been happier.
About a month ago i backed into a concrete post crushing one of the tips on the mufflers.
So i go back online and search for FRPP gt500 sport mufflers and find the M-5230-MSVTLA (not knowing there is a difference at the time) and order them.
Well i thought this was going to be a simple replacement of the damaged muffler but i get the one swapped out and then check out the alignment and notice the tip looks much larger that the other older non damaged muffler.
So i break out the tape measure and sure enough it's larger.
Even at this point i think well this is just a larger tip so i replace the other old non damaged muffler with a the new one as well so they will match.
Then i start the car up for the first time.
WTF??!??!? WHERE DID MY SOUND GO??!?!?!?
Not only are the svt's much quieter but it just doesn't have the sound the old ones had, I guess i am going to have to go to a muffler shop and have someone swap the tips or purchase another set of the GT's.
I am just wondering if i did something wrong during the install but what really is there to mess up?

Confused
Now I am confused.. Can someone tell me which mufflers I have bought? They are SVT GT500 mufflers but which ones? And why does one end in A the other in AJ? I am wondering if they are a matched set?
Left reads BR3V-5232-AJ
Right reads BR3V-5230-A
