Can someone explain to me how....

the connecting rods in the new 5.0 are superior to the 4.6? "Optimized for reduced weight and redesigned for uniform bearing loads around the big end, the Coyote rod eliminates the 4.6 rod's balance pad." How much good is this really worth or is it hardly worth noting ?

the rods are oversized in section. reheated and forged for near 4340 strength. they will withstand design strength. whatever that is. but they are stronger.

Good question all I can tell you is that I read somewhere that the MAX recomended boost is 7lbs.Not sure if this is correct info so take it with a grain of salt.

It's all relative. Are the 5.0 rods stronger than the 4.6? Sure, but powdered metal rods are powdered metal rods, they are cheap and weak and will not hold up to substantial boost over time.

No quite. If think the GT500 Rods have proven pretty durable up to 600 rwhp or so. I dont think we would get much complaint if they are good for that level.

If I remember correctly the Cobra/Windsor/3V PM Rods were rated for 7350 rpm. One of Fords Engineers stated the 5.0 Bottom End was good for 8,000 rpm. I dont think Cobra PM Rods would be trustworthy at 8,000 rpm on a stroker crank so the improvement must have been substantial enough.

You also have to remember the 7.0psi was in reference to pump gas and the 11.0 compression. 7.0 psi is going to be a substantial amount of volume on that engine. Volume is horspower. Intake pressure is just a measure of restriction at that volume. A 5.0 4V at 7.0 psi makes about 10% more power than a 4.6 3V at 12.0 psi.
