Nice job! They look OEM (well, they are lol), be it does look factory. Have you driven it yet? The next thing I'd be doing, if you haven't already, is get a tune so the shifts are quicker.
I have not gotten a tune. I have been driving around in it, but just casual driving. Much better than those 3D printed paddles from ebay, and world's better than the rocker switch on the shifter.
The PCM still babysits you when shifting, as nothing is done to the programming.
Awesome write-up as usual. Finished mine this weekend. Only thing different I used was for the hard foam spacer, I had to use a 5mm sheet instead of a 3mm sheet. Tested them last night, they work awesome. I compared them to the buttons on the shifter as far as delay goes, no noticeable difference between them at all.
hello, just ran across this thread it is AMAZING. Nice work!
From my understanding all 6R80s have the ability to use the select shift feature. Where is that feature controlled exactly. Do you have to have the premium cluster? Or is it something else.
I have a 2012 A6 and would like to do this. Any help would be great, thanks

2013-14 can be shifted from D to S (Sport). At that point, the shift points are changed and downshifting is more aggressive. The only downside is that in automatic mode, it never goes to 6th gear.
Once in S mode, there is a rocker switch on the left of the shifter that you can use your thumb to manually shift through all 6 gears. Once you manually shift, the car stays in manual mode until you go back to Drive. The only time the computer will step in is 1) it won't let you downshift to a gear so low you over-rev the engine and 2) it won't let you start out in a gear higher than 3rd. Coming to a stop in gears 4-6 will result in it dropping you to 1st to take off.
Yes, you can do this in your 2012. I did it to mine 2012 GT. But this involves more. You need to program the PCM to that of a 13 or 14 car and then you have Select Shift. Then you need to wire up the PCM to the paddles. You can see the thread in this section that details how you need to do this - but be warned as there is quite a bit more involved.
Can you please explain what type of female pin is used for connecting the power wire on the transmitter to the clock spring plug? A link or pic of a female pin that works would be helpful so I can show the guy at an electronics store.
