Succinct Pearson finally gets his due with NASCAR Hall of Fame nod

In my opinion David Pearson is the greatest NASCAR driver ever and NASCAR really messed up last year when he was excluded from the inaugural class of inductees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

In NASCAR's defense, they needed to set a small class size and stick to it, lest they run out of inductees in a couple years. I would happily have had Pearson over Bill France Jr, though.

As far as "greatest" driver I think that's a legitimately tough call. Pearson went wheel to wheel with Petty, Junior Johnson invented the draft slingshot, Cale Yarborough might have been Ford's greatest driver if they hadn't pulled out of NASCAR and left him looking for a ride in his prime years, Earnhardt was Earnhardt, etc. More important to me is I hope they don't just concentrate on guys with long careers and tons of wins. Fireball Roberts, Alan Kulwicki, and Davey Allison should all get in there. John Holman's and Ralph Moody's team didn't last the ages, but their dominant 1965 season should get them in. Time will tell.
