V8 Supercars in Texas

V8 Supercars will become the first Australian motorsport to stage a full Championship event in the United States when it races at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in 2013. The last time an Australian sport was exported to the United States was when an additional and controversial fourth State of Origin rugby league game was played at Long Beach in California in 1987.

Creating History

It is the first time any Australian motorsport category has competed in the United States. The agreement advances V8 Supercars’ international expansion.

American Audience

V8 Supercars is a growing sport in America. Americans watch V8 Supercars on the SPEED™ network throughout South and North America. The American sporting press have taken to V8 Supercars as an action-packed, ultra-competitive form of motorsport.

About the Circuit

Circuit Length: 3.4 miles/20-Turns (5.5km)

Race Direction: Counter Clock wise

Top Speed: TBD

Average Speed: TBD

Circuit of The Americas will be a world-class destination for performance, entertainment, education and business. It will be the first purpose-built Grand Prix facility in the United States designed for any and all classes of racing, from motor power to human power, and be the U.S. home to the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX™

The Circuit of The Americas’ master plan features a variety of permanent structures designed for business, education, entertainment and race use. Its signature element will be a 3.4-mile circuit track.

Other support buildings will include an expansive outdoor live music space, a conference center, a banquet hall as well as a state-of-the-art medical facility. Future proposed amenities include a driving/riding experience, a motorsports driving club, kart track, grand plaza event center and tower, and a trackside recreational vehicle park. For more information visit:www.CircuitofTheAmericas.com.

A Driver’s Perspective

V8 Supercar Driver Mark Winterbottom had a sample the Circuit of The Americas when he went to Austin earlier in June this year.

“This is probably as close to Bathurst as any track I’ve seen, purely because of the angulation. You’ve got blind corners, you’ve got the length, you’ve got the speed, and I think this is going to build up to be a historic track for America as well,” Winterbottom said.

“The circuit’s topography, including the dramatic changes in elevation, will make for some really fun racing and a great show for fans.”

About Austin Texas.

Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” and is known for being one of the hubs of the United States’ technology industry. The Central Texas city is also well regarded for its fine dining, hospitality and world-class night life, in one of the most scenic parts of the country. Austin is a sister city to Adelaide, Australia, where the V8 Supercars’ Clipsal 500 is staged.

Austin is the capital city of Texas and the seat of Travis County. Located in Central Texas on the eastern edge of the American Southwest, it is the fourth-largest city in Texas and the 14th most populous city in the United States. It was the third-fastest-growing large city in the nation from 2000 to 2006.

10 | 05 | 2013 - PEPSI MAX CREW AUSTIN'S HOME TEAM

Ford's Pepsi Max Crew has been officially adopted by Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau for V8 Supercars American debut next weekend at the Texas 400.

The team has partnered with the Austin CVB for the event at the Circuit of the Americas and the cars of Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom will both carry the official logo and tagline of Live Music Capital of the World.

Austin CVB Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Julie Chase is excited to be working with Fords Pepsi Max Crew.

"Austin, known as the 'Live Music Capital of the World,' is home to countless music venues and musicians. Now the world will see us as a premier sporting location with the arrival of the Pepsi Max Crew and V8 Supercars Championship."

PepsiCo Beverages Australia Brand Manager, Adam Burling is hopeful this partnership will continue to grow in coming years and that American fans get behind the Pepsi Max Crew at both international and domestic rounds of the championship.

"We cant wait to unleash the Pepsi Max Crew Fords on Austin and we know that once fans see, hear and feel the V8 Supercars in Texas, they'll love them as much as we do and we want it to be the Pepsi Max Crew they choose to support." Burling said.

Pepsi Max Crew Team Principal Tim Edwards thinks it's a great opportunity to get new race fans supporting the new look race team for 2013.

"This is the event for American fans to find their team and decide who their allegiance lies with and what better way to do it than giving them a team to really support," Edwards said.

"As the factory Ford team the US is somewhat home turf. Our ties with America are only strengthened by our partnership with Pepsi Max so when you add our association with Austin CVB we are the automatic choice for a home team for local fans."

The Texas 400 will feature four 100-kilometre races using a shorter version of the full Grand Prix layout.

agreed, I have thoroughly enjoyed the NBCSN coverage of the races.

Will this race be aired live, or on a tape delay?

I think the Aussie Austin race will be delayed on Speed.

And thanks for posting Falc'man! I'd love to see Frosty (or any Falcon driver) win one of the races!

No probs, Evil_Capri. Frosty has been riddled with problems and errors so far this year. He's also proven to be the quickest on many occasions when he's not off the track for whatever reason.

Hopefully he can avoid any dramas and pull off a win, he deserves it.

If you haven't been following what's happening in the background; the Ford cars are the heaviest of the lot. The official excuse is the production Commodores have aluminum panels and therefore are allowed the same on the racecars.

Contradictory for a category that's meant to have parity. Parity is ensuring the GM product is not disadvantaged in any way. The guy who was responsible for cotf is none other than Holden's golden boy, Mark Skaife.

Not looking good for Frosty - his team tweeted saying their race set-up is better. Let's hope so. His teammate's second in the CC so we need him to go even better.
