I think we need to wait to see what the final product (and price) will be. Hopefully Saleen will have learned that they can't charge as much as they used to just for the name. If the price is around Roush territory (which is still pretty expensive), I think they will be OK. Anything over that and it will be too overpriced.

It looks great, but I think all these "tuner" mustangs are outrageously overpriced. Roush seems to be the most affordable of the bunch, and still packs some serious horsepower. And if I had $50,000 to blow on a mustang I'd probably go with a Roush.
But Saleen & Shelby both are icons within the mustang community and they make you PAY FOR those names! I don't doubt that they are icons, but i wouldn't want to pay for the name on a car. (I know some do). The production numbers are also MUCH higher than any of the older special editions of the 60s, 70s, and 80s that these guys created. This totally takes away from the "few" that Saleen likes to give the "power" to.
Shelby is at least true to the ***** out HP he likes to add to his cars. The Supersnakes, and KRs are a testament to that, and he's brought back modern versions of them. I think Saleen has completely fallen off the wagon. In the 80s he was into the functional aerodynamics, and real race inspired parts. The FOX saleens used to have Momo steering wheels, Recaro seats, lighter BBS style wheels, and full race suspensions. Now he puts a sticker on the ford wheel, adds a louvered headrest to recovered seats, adds HEAVY 20" wheels on skinny tires, and throws on an upgraded suspension that is fighting the weight of a heavy car on 20s.
"Power in the hands of a few" ... more like ... "Power in the hands of whoever wants to pay me"

I haven't heard any rumors on the Saleen S281. SEMA isn't far away -- hopefully they will have answers then. Heck, I can't even find a legitimate price for the 435S (though I haven't looked all that hard).
In either case, they have to be close to Roush or they will be way overpriced. Especially in this market and with the value of the Saleen name in doubt.

That was the big dog SMS 460X (not Saleen) IIRC.

And I agree the price needs to be kept in check.
