What does ol Shelby have up his sleeve ?

Which brings me to my next plan. Buy a Shelby a year old or so. Save the hit. Strip the Shelby from it and sell the pieces. Make it my own design with no Shelby influences.

Ford didn't secure the use of the Shelby moniker and then charge more because the badge forced them to, they secured use of the Shelby moniker so they could charge what they felt was an appropriate price for the car in the first place. The marketing scheme for prior Cobra badged cars didn't work, so they moved to a formula they thought would work and they were right.
Far more likely than the notion that this car would sell for less without the Shelby badging is the likelihood that the car might not be here at all without the Shelby badging.

Well there is a market for just the cobra. The terminator is still one of the most desirable mustangs and are still in demand.
I would NOT buy a F150. But I would buy a Raptor. Whether it says SVT or not. SVT has its own following but yeah, maybe the Shelby badging might have sold a few more units. Hey Ford, I would like the option.

But that still doesn't mean I want the car because of his name on it. But I do want the car and am **** glad it's coming.
The thing about Carrol Shelby is that he is not afraid to bring out a car that stands out. A 2012 Shelby GT350 makes one stop in their tracks and look at it. I dont think Ford would put those big in your face racing stripes on the GT500 without the insistance of Carrol Shelby. Ford usually offers their cars with less flair. Everytime I see a GT500 with racing stripes come down the road, I pull over to the side of the road and watch it go by.

I don't think the GT350 is ugly, but it definitely looks like an aftermarket body kit on a production car and not a factory piece which is, IMO, as bad as being ugly if not worse. If I'm spending that much on a car, I want it to look like a factory piece.

And Patrick. If I was given a 2012 GT350 I would sell it, pay the taxes, and buy that 69 Mach 1

I do understand your point, having LeBron endorse it, or Andre, or Eddie Bauer, does not magically make the product better. Having David Ortiz's signature on your Louisville Slugger won't make you a better hitter. (But don't blame the bat--I was always reaching for that outside curve.) Shelby's name on a Mustang does not make it go faster--however, in counterpoint it doesn't slow it down either.
The Shelby name has a value...Ford has a marketing arm. Somebody, somewhere, must have decided that there was a value to using Shelby. Those people decided there was more value in using Shelby GT500 than using SVT Cobra.
Personally, I don't care if Shelby's name is on the car. (Nor do I care if SVT is on the car. In fact I don't even like stripes on the car, but I have no objection if Ford wants to offer them. And I have no quarrel with those who prefer stripes.) But I am not going to pretend that a Shelby branded product has no market value.

What would be great would be a GT500 with the Shelby delete package. No plastic letters, no vinyl stripes, no oversize plastic snakes on the fenders/grille. Sold for a few thousand less, and sitting right next to the Shelby GT500 on the showroom floor. Ford could offer all the Shelby glitz in an installation package from the dealer if someone wanted to add it later. They'd sell every car, and every owner would have money in his pocket to start modding. Guess who'd be upset about that? Hint - it wouldn't be the owners of the plain Jane version...

No more zit faced adolescents asking how much or how fast at every gas station. No more cops following me for miles simply because of two parallel stripes. No more challenges from everything from grandma's Buick to Cooter's '63 pickup truck. Just quiet stares when the key is turned, and confusion from among the masses.

No it wouldn't...even the termis were getting up in price for that year and with a 3 year gap without a production of a high end mustang like that the price increase was completely normal....and a Cobra is due...Shelby's name on the mustang has once again almost run its course...a new Cobra will be made and it will be just as expensive...hopefully we won't have to wait 3 years in between production again.
