There is no way they would bother with designing new parts and testing etc for an engine that will only be used in a very small number of premium models. Even the Ford GT used a common engine that was already around in other volume models.

The 5.4 is also being dropped in Australia, so even on a global level the GT500 would be the only vehicle left using it? And from what we have heard, the 5.0 can make equivalent power to the 5.4 while being lighter and more efficient anyway.

Everything points to the 5.4 being gone after next year.
I totally agree here. These are mass produced engines. There'd be no reason to keep 5.4 tooling once the new gen engines are being produced. Look for some kind of whipped up 5.0 in the GT500.

I picked up on that too. Ford is either very clever with their marketing techniques or were trying to be clever and had the info leaked ahead of time.

But seriously people, Wile E. Coyote vs Road Runner. Main stream cartoon from the late '80s and early '90s ... which probably links directly to the primary audience of the enthusiasts purchasing the GT's and Special Editions.

... The information being "leaked" on the internet ... the same forum which many people within their target audience uses to keep up with the latest information.

Wanna' bet?

Again, think of what goes into a new engine program, which is essentially what an AL-block "Condor" would be. This is Ford Motor Company we're talking about here -- there's no way they'd just stuff some old, leftover FRPP engines into an OE, albeit low-volume, vehicle program. And there's no way they'd invest their resources into a one-year-run engine program. It makes absolutely no sense.

IMO, there is no DI, twin-turbo 5.0L engine coming in the near-future. The 5.4L, especially now that it will weigh significantly less, is more than up to the job of going head-to-head with the Camaro Z28.

The LSx motors have had a problem with piston slap since day one when using forged pistons. Its not any sort of reliability issue, just bothersome.

That's pretty funny. I remember watching in the late seventies, getting up at 6am (or earlier)on saturdays waiting for the vertical lines of color to come on and then give way to actual cartoon programming.

I can't see the Roadrunner just having a little extra horsepower, especially not just 25 to 50. If the horsepower difference is really that small there has to be some kind of tech that justifies a different codename. Maybe forged internals or some kind of different architecture? I am not especially engine tech savvy, but surely there must be something more than a tune to distinguish the two.

A lot more to an engine than just HP.

...just sayin.

Yes there is. "Bobcat" is meant for trucks, though.
Not like that's ever stopped anyone using a truck motor in a passenger vehicle in the past.

Look it up, it's an impressive unit. Enough grunt to twist the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

I'm just stoked about a new motor design, and thrilled about the possibility of a new BOSS 302 or 429 mustang.

I did not even know the Z28 was going back into production. The last I heard GM canceled their performance line of vehicles.

I'm just wondering if they will offer crate motors of the coyote or roadrunner in the near future.

The Z28 has been on again off again for a while now. I heard it was back on, then read last week it wasn't officially reconfirmed again. I'll wait until I see a concept.

Yeah, but judging by the previous Camaro schedule, when the concept comes out, you'll still have to wait another another 4 years until it actually hits lots!
