Is my Clutch Toast???

My car is not holding the power while its in gear. If I have the car say in 4th gear at 2k, step on it, the tach will raise crazy fast. Then the car will catch, tach drops, and I smell clutch. Is this a sign that my clutch is toast or something else?

Yep, it's clutch. Park it and take it to the dealer asap.

Nope, which is why I'm surprised. The car has 9,600 miles on it. A poster on another forum says it just might be glazed and I should just drive normally and do lots of gear changes.

I would only consider doing that if the car was out of warranty.

You would think it could handle just a pulley swap. They put beefy clutches in these cars or do they.....

Thats true. I guess in this situation I'd take it in and let the dealer fix it

Could be..I've had what I thought was a clutch going, and found it went away. (glazed slightly)
The slip was VERY minimal though, but you have a lot more power than my lowly 3v.
(mine was from stop/go traffic)

It should not be an issue but the dealer might try to make one out of it.

For normal driving, yes.

As an example of Ford's approach look back at the '07s' heat -warped flywheels-grinding shifts problem. Just because the GT500 is their starship Mustang it doesn't mean they don't count the beans whether for the '07s, the '10s, or the '11s for that matter.

Can't, it's got a the pulley on it. Plus the dealer already knows and is cool about it. (at least is at the moment)

Wow. I don't have but 1100 miles on mine but now I'm worried about it. I was under the (potentially false) impression that these new clutches were really good and can take a beating with some real power. I hope that is still the case.
