Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords' write-up of the 2013 GT500
I like how MM&FF did not print actual drag strip times of a preproduction version of the 2013 GT500. They gave their impressions of what a preproduction felt like to drive and speculated as to how a production version would perform. Unlike some publications, they dont do something silly as directly compare a preproduction model to a production model.
So if the ZL1 barley beat the boss by 3 tenths in the 1/4 that has 130+ less hp how is it going to beat a Shelby that has 70hp more?
Besides any word on the strength of the new 5.8? The 5.4 is a tank!! Will guys be able to run 1000+ hp on Thier stock motor like they are in Thier 5.4?

This powertrain is an evolution of the 5.4 DOHC S/C, but the changes are EXTENSIVE.
5.0 Magazine just did a great deep dive on the engine in great detail that explains my statement.
while it is true that the 2013 5.8 block is based on the 5.4, to say its just a bored out 5.4 with some new parts is a GROSS undertstatement.

Have to agree, I read that in 5.0 also and was really impressed. When you get down to the heart of it sure sounds like Ford and SVT has made a monster!

Given a spare $60k I would pick the Shelby 11 times out of 10. I'm a FORD GUY. I suspect I always will be. That said, suspension on the top dog camaro is pretty **** well sorted out. We have to admit, the Chevy is a great car. Further, I do wish that Ford would find a way to get a little more tire on these beasts as contact patch is very important in all aspects of performance.
It will be interesting and both are cars that AMERICANS and of course our brothers to the north, CANADIANS can drive with pride.

What is hilarious is that Baghdad Al's team really was playing video game simulations to better gauge their own car...
