GT500 Brakes

SO what is the deal with the heat on the brakes? I've read/watched the reviews. I've read/watched about the cooling ducts. Just curious what this is about. Do they need to bee cross-drilled, do they need slots, is the air-flow lacking there, is the metal wrong (thickness/composite)? From the specs, they should be fine so I wanted to see what some of you more savvy folks know about this. Mainly, planning the first upgrade.

On the 2013 they removed most of the dust shield to help with air flow and cooling without the need for additional cooling ducts.
