Our approach was to make every Camaro ZL1 fully track-capable, from the factory. As we announced today, the ZL1 Coupe will start at $54,995 with standard Magnetic Ride Control, standard Performance Traction Management, and standard track-capable equipment such as a rear-differential cooler, brake cooling ducts, and an engine and transmission cooler...
... and Moron Clearcoat Mettalic to match our ever growing fan base.

None of our customers will have to buy extra options or modify their ZL1 for track-day usage.
And they shouldn't have to, we've already bought 55 billion dollars worth of "options" from you bastards that we'll never get any use of.

That letter is an admission of absolute humiliation...

You know how you feel embarrassed for someone when they fall down, put their foot in their mouth or otherwise do something really stupid? That's how I feel for those guys.

The ZR1 vette is rated at 638hp 6.2sc.
ZL1 camaro 580hp 6.2sc.
Why? Because GM will never let the camaro beat the vette. Don't think that a little programming won't get the ZL1 camaro well over 600. The next vette will be at 700hp because it's a numbers war right now. More than its been in years and I'm loving it. These are great times that were in right now. The rivalry is on in full which hasn't been this good since the early 70's. And we all get the benefits of it. All this trash talking on the interweb is really paying off for us guys.

Expect GM to come back really strong. The Shelby is beating the ZR1 in the hp race for half the price. Nononononoooo

The ZL1 has the LSA engine (not forged) the ZR1 has the LS9 engine (forged)
The LSA isn't built to be beefed up too much.

What a difference between this and what Jim Farley was quoted as saying.

"We are going to beat on them, and it's going to be fun. F*** GM!

Same displacement. Both will handle the power. The non forged bottom end is still pretty bullet proof. That LS platform bottom end is very strong. The LS9 will push 700 next year with probably no real mods just to out shine the Shelby.

I would say, one quote is a little trash talking in a rivalry and the other is a whimper about how they just got learned. LOL

I also like how all those jackaces are saying "great letter" & "classy" when it couldn't be further from it. What a joke... Classy would have been congratulating Ford on making what appears to be a fine machine, and nicely saying we're coming for you in the comparison tests... but hey what do I know...

Yes but the LS9 is in the corvette, this is about the camaro ZL1.
Mustangs were never meant to compare to corvettes

2 seater lightweight arrow shaped sports car, vs 4 seater muscle car.
But alot of GM guys run to the corvette after the camaro gets beat for some reason

Oh I understand this. The reason that I brought up the vette is because they are both basically running the same motor. Forge or not. They will both push over 600. But for the Shelby to beat out the hp of the top dog vette is quite impressive. And BTW, the Shelby has been killing the vettes for quite a few years now. Just maybe not on a road course. I'll take the Shelby on a race from a roll any day.

It's ironic and hypocritical how back in 2004 Chevy and Dodge both dismissed the new Mustang claiming retro and going back to roots wouldl never work.

Sure enough, both followed Ford's lead.

To be fair GM would have to switch out the pistons on the LSA to increase the power a significant amount unless they do so by a means other than boost, apparently the cast hypereuteric pistons in the LSA won't tolerate much more than the engine is already runnng in a manner that makes GM comfortable from a warranty perspective.

As for the letter, Al Oppenheiser is actually the chief engineer for Team Camaro, but yeah....apparently somebody felt the need to break out some damage control. If they are this worried about the chatter now wait until the first 2012 ZL1 vs 2013 GT500 comparo hits the newstands. That should be good for a full on nervous breakdown.
