Yes, you do. Here's how. Take piece of 1/2in MDF or similar and carpet it with similar carpet to your trunk. The wood should be just a little bit bigger than your amp, all the way aournd, maybe 2". Mount the amp to the board, then drill holes through it for you to pass the wires through, then mount the board to the seatback. All your wires will come out of the amp, then go directly behind the board so you can not see them.

If you want a perfect factory/aftermarket balance, go with the 500, then add a good amp and a (some) good sub(s). The 1000 TRIES to bass, and is ok, but it easily distorts, and is just as heavy, if not more so, than good aftermarket stuff. The 1000 gets you, what, one 10" sub, and a crappy (sorry) factory-like amp?
If you want to do it right, get the 500. The reason to do this is because you get the 8" speakers in the door. Even if you decide to upgrade from the 500, you already have the mid-base in the door, and you can upgrade those 8"s if you want to, and not have to cut holes that aren't already there. Simply add a good amp and a good sub(s) in the trunk for rear-fill, and you have the sub-base that rounds out a good system.
Yes, you'll add weight over the base-line or the 500 system, but at least you have it in the trunk where it's over the rear-tires AND it'll sound good! And if you find it slowing you down, throw a blower on there and call it a day

The 1000 has 2 subs? I didn't catch that when looking at the one 1000 system I've seen. I'm guessing that they're at opposite ends of the trunk? I saw the one, quite pronouned, at the right-hand (passenger) side of the trunk. I really didn't see a second. Then again, from the sound it was putting out, I really wasn't expecting to find a second sub-woofer. So, perhaps, I didn't look hard enough?
I would just like to say since I am not the fastest in the group..... and apparently Vista blue and performance white are better colors than grabber, I would like to point out that I have the best sounding Stereo system in the group!!!!! SO HAAA
