+1 here. I also agree with you Paul about just blending to be safe.

I'm pretty sure the Top Fuel Dragsters use Nitromethane, not ethanol.

Nice work - Channel 2 featured this story on their 6:00 and 10:00 newscasts tonight. 10:00 P.M. newscast showed the QT spokesman (with what looked like a few beads of sweat popping out on his forehead) reminding the motoring public that QT "guarantees our gasoline", and that if anyone has a problem with their gas "they'll be taken care of". Obvious attempt at PR damage control, since they hadn't publicized the fact that they're mixing ethanol into the gas they sell.

Thanks for the update!! They should have notified the public.... this was a loophole that they exploited in not notifying us of an extra addative that could cost us more at the gas pump and less power!

I can tell you from investigating further that all the Phillips 66, fiesta marts and conoco stations have ethanol free gas for now in Tulsa. I don't know how much longer it is going to last. It should be a state law that if there is ethanol in the gasoline it should have a large sticker 3"X18" telling if it has ethanol or not. It should not say it might it should be positive it has it on not. I am very disappointed that Quick Trip tried in my opinion such a underhanded sneaky dishonest trick that could have damaged peoples cars and not tell anybody about it until they get caught red handed exploiting a loophole in the law. It only costs $2.00 a pump for a stickers warning people. I am taking further action contacting my state legislative representatives by phone and in writing. I hope that I can help to make it a law. Everybody else needs to do the same to force the issue and disallow corporate juggernauts like Quick Trip from getting away with it.

We can hope that there will be a few stations that will hold out and sell ethanol free gas. If they do they will have to advertise it with a banner or Quick Trip will kill them on price because alcohol is substantially cheaper than gasoline. When you do the math on the difference it equals out to be the same but most people can't see beyond the price on the sign. I will no longer fuel my car at Quick Trip because of what I feel is there dishonest actions and I encourage you to do the same and send them a message by voting with your wallet.

You really think 10% ethanol would damage engines?

It should be the same octane rating? Not sure of the effects of ethenol with gasoline. Basicaly ethenol is alcohol which burns cleaner than gasoline. Personally I don't see why we cant get to where your car could be powered solely from alcohol. I think this would solve an awful lot of problems, from environmental to political issues such as the situation in the mid east. Two words keep it from happening. BIG OIL.

It will damage older 2 cycle engines and it could lean the a/f ratio out on carburetor applications which can not compensate for the leaner mixture. It is also possible on fuel injected applications where the engine is supercharged or turbocharged. A lean air fuel ratio can really be deadly to a engine with forced induction. On the older ford EEC5 processors the Wot air fuel ratio is based off the mas air meter reading and not off the o2 sensors thus does not compensate for the leaner mixture. Most tuners put in a bump for the 3-4/10 leaner mixture that E10 gas can cause. It bumped my air fuel ratio from 11.7=1 to 12.1=1 for my supercharged application. Lets says a persons air fuel ratio is 12.1=1 to Begin with and it bumps it to 12.5=1 at that the range that supercharged cars can have serious detonation issues.

Part of the problem out of trying to use pure alcohol is the fact it leaves no lubrication on the cilinder walls. It only has 2/3 the energy of gasoline. If all the farm land in the united states was converted to make ethanol it would only supply 20% of the fuel needed.

I have went in and adjusted the air fuel ratio from 14.64 to 14.30 for the 10% ethanol blended gas to make the same power. In the eec5 processor under light to moderate driving the o2 sensors adjusts for the proper air fuel ratio. I did some data logging and the adptive air fuel ratio trims were less than 1 percent off with the new air fuel ratio. It was 5-7 percent off with the old air fuel ratio with E10 gasoline.

But in a pinch... you can drink your fuel if it's alcohol... you can't do that with gasoline!
