Mine stuck just this morning. I had to drive the car and hit the brakes a few times to get it to loosen up. I was hoping I wasn't the only one with this problem. Well one more thing to add to my list when I bring it in for it's next service.

 

I brought mine to the dealer yesterday and they claim they found the source of the problem. They ordered new parts (I think they said it was whever is immediately behind the handle). I'll let you all know more details once they get the parts in stock and installed.

Is there a TSB for this, because I'm kinda getting sick of it. Although I don't drive it int he winter, I start it up every other week and I have left the E-brake disengaged.....so I have to stand on the brake for the 20-30 minutes I have it running.

 

I don't think so. If there is, then my dealer knew nothing about it.

My latest update is that I just picked up my car this morning after the dealer "fixed" it. They didn't leave the e-brake on, so I don't know yet if it helped. I'll be able to test it after work today since it will be sitting in the cold for a while. I'll let you guys know how the fix works.

I wanted to update everybody on my situation.

I took my Mustang into a dealership and they "dryed and lubed" the e-brake cable. This was about 2 weeks ago. Since then the problem has only reoccured once when the car was left out in -20C weather for 2 days.

That time I just needed to pull and release the e-brake handle a couple of times and the e-brake disengaged. Other than that the brake has been fine every morning.

 

First time writing here but use other sites as well. Thank God I'm not the only other person having this problem. The dealer has done just abut everything and it still locks up. After reading this I had to go outside and look anf the setup. Don't know if anyone is willing to give a try where it is constantly cold because here in NJ it's going to be warm this week. There is a clear plastic cover right at the rear lower control arm that is like full of water. My idea is that this is freezing and squeezing the cable inside. I am going to wait for it to get cold and put her up on ramps the night before and see if it is frozen on a frigid day and if it is possibly cut it off and see what happens. Hopefully not break the outer shething of the cable. Let me know if this makes sense. :bang:

 

My dealer replaced all cables and everything is fine now. The brakes will still stick a little if it is snowing (if the brakes get wet actually) and I leave it standing for 2 days or more

 

Well, the "fix" that my dealer provided didn't help. :bang: The car wouldn't even roll down my driveway on Monday morning, so I brought it back to the dealer on Monday. They once again reproduced the problem by leaving the car out over night. This time they plan to replace the left side cables and possibly the caliper. I should be getting the car back tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted.

You mean you don't drive your Mustang to work? My e-brake will freeze up easily in 20 degree weather in just a couple hours, so that means it is stuck when I leave for lunch or at the end of the day.

Also, I have a garage, but I can't park in it right now due to a project I'm finishing up.

 

Well it went back to the dealer for a few days this week. They said they replaced a cable and lubed stuff up. They've already replaced the handle a cable and a passenger rear caliper on seperate occasions. They didn't want to keep it over Christmas and it didn't happen again, though it was warm the past day or two. Crossing my fingers, and hoping. Or Else

my brake wire boots are torn too, I better bring it in now because

a) it's cold enough to freeze and it did happen a couple times

B) it will probably break next winter when my car is out of warranty

c) by cooincidence I have my stock LCAs on right now

now sounds like a good time.

 

I have not had that problem with the mustang but never drive it in the winter and only have 4000 miles on it.
BUT my 2004 F150 has had that problem and the truck will vibrate severely.
The problem is occasional so when I take it in the dealer says nothing is wrong. That is the only words Ford dealerships know. Nothing wrong or it's normal
