TAK TAK TAK noise for the drivers side of the motor

When cold my 2005 GT auto makes a continuous TAK TAK TAK noise that varies with RPM's. As it warms up it goes away, but lately it is getting louder and lasts longer. Also the exhaust note is deeper and louder untill the noise goes away. After it stops the car is quiet and purrs like a kitten.

I am assuming it is valvetrain noise. Is this normal? It only sounds like it is coming from the drivers side of the motor.

Thanks!

That is most likely either a stuck/collapsed valve lash adjuster, or a faulty VCT solenoid. Use a mechanic's stethoscope or listen through the handle of a long screwdriver. Put it on the valve cover of the side you suspect the problem is coming from.

Bring it down here to the great mechanics of Florida and they'll tell you it's totally normal because it is a high performance engine...
