It is an 8 page warranty contract. I am going to call Fidelity Warranty Services, INC. (Saturday or Monday) to get the exact details why this is not covered. I believe it had something to do with ice and rust like ice build up caused it to rust. Rust void the warranty according to the contract.

Had this problem last year and my dealer fixed it under warranty and haven't had a problem since. I would fight the dealer until they fix the problem nascar.

The problem is not that ice caused a part to rust, it is that water gets into the cable sheath and freezes....freezing the cable in place. There is no rust, just ice. Once the ice melts, the problem disappears.

The underlying problem is the rubber boot that seals up the cable deteriorated and rotted away, letting water get into the cable. The rubber boot is the problem, and needs to be replaced.

My car had to have it replaced and it hasn't even been cold here, and the car is garaged ALL the time. Its never even been driven in the rain but once, so I'm skeptical that its only caused by freezing conditions.

I'm not exactly positive since I don't have the repair sheet anymore, but from what I remember it was the parking brake cable. Although I could be wrong.

My red '05 did this a few times when I had it, took it in and they replaced the cables. My silver '06 has been fine (knock on wood).

Just experienced the parking brake problem. Do not know why it would not release. Dealer said they need to replace the cable. Luckly mine is still under the manufacturer warranty.

Parking brake freezing

Brrrrrrrrr. I live in Nashville. Got cold two days ago(Jan 2) at work and my 2006 GT parking brake froze up. After driving carefully it seemed to let up.
Once arriving home I set the brake again but only pulled up half way. Upon starting car to go to work (Jan 3) it again froze up but quickly released as I live on a hill. I didn't set the parking brake again. Took it to
the dealer this morning to have issue resolved. Lets see what happens.
I put a copy of Fords TSB in with my keys in the key drop box. Hopefully they at least can read.

Dealer took a look but since the weather warmed up, they couldn't recreate the problem. However, I was told that they took a look-see and brakes, rotors, calipers all looked normal. The service advisor at Champion Ford said they greased it up and lubed whatever needed to be lubed, and to bring it back the night before a hard freeze again to see if the problem persists. Lets see, now if I do that, how in the world am I gonna get to work-a cab? Or maybe I could walk the 8 miles? No bus service to my work, rent a car? Lets keep our fingers crossed this doesn't happen again. BTW the TSB didn't include my car, only the Mustangs prior to the date mine was made. Stay tuned for news!!!!

Sounds weird to me - you can SEE the problem without having to experience it. Also, I had asked about my '06 and it was still summer. They said they would be able to tell by the part numbers if I had the undated cables or not, and if not, they would replace them because they already knew the old ones wouldn't last.

My '06 was produced very close to the TSB date, so they checked the cables. Anything produced after 10/1/05 should have the updated cables, theoretically.
