Mine started doing this on Monday!
I jacked it up and took a look, the little accordion boots on the cable ends are all rotten! I blew some compressed air through the cables, and sure enough, full of water!
For those of you who seem to think that it is somehow acceptable for this to happen, what a lode of !!!
After 48 years up here in the great white north, and God knows how many cars with standard shift's, I can assure you that this is a first for me!

Hey All...
The 'born on' date for my mustang is august 2004. Until last week mine never froze. Then, just like Donkey, it was sluggish. I pulled back into the driveway and discovered that the e-brake was frozen. Had to drive the beast to work (Durango). It unfroze by the time I got home (39*). It is strange I made it thru 2 winters (04 & 05) without this happening.

picking my car up today

UPDATE: I am picking my car up today. They replaced the parking brake cable assy. When the parking brake locked on mine, I didnt notice b/c it was snowing that day. I drove down the road (actually a 90 minute trip ) with it partially on. It trashed my left rear disc. Well, they refused to replace/turn the rotor. That just doesnt seem right to me. They are charging me $50 to turn it.

EDIT: My car was built in Nov04. Never had this problem until last week.

refused to replace it?!?!?! my right rear rotor is SHOT because of this ****. All i know is that they better do something about it becasue i am definetely not paying for anything with it still under friggin warantee. if i DO have to pay for it, let the mods BEGIN! ive been laying off some of the mods (ie Diablo Predator) because I dont want to mess with the warantee. that will all be out the door if I need to cough up any $$$ because of their factory defect.

thank GOD i didnt go for a brake upgrade!

mine goes in tuesday so we shall see

My 05 GT has done this numerous times with the parking brake. So now I will just leave it in gear when it goes below 32 degrees.

Today my fuel guage went to E and the message center said DTI file error. I went home disconected the battery for five minutes now she is great again. I love my mustang

Hey Preacher,

How long did you drive for with the brake stuck?

My rotors seem fine.

My brakes stuck on me yesterday. Thankfully I was home when it happened and not at work. I printed the TSB 06-5-4 and will go to the dealer tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I notice mine sticking a little bit during the cold desert nights here in AZ lately. I'm parking primarily in gear now.

it took dealer one week to get parts. ask your dealer if they have parts in stock in case u need the car back asap.

My right rear brake locks up... the rubber accordian boot on the end of the cable is crumbling. How pathetic. Oh, sorry, I forgot, making rubber is a new science.

I had to remove the little clip that holds the end of the cable housing so that I could drive home.

Printed the TSB, going to call for parts check and to schedule an appointment.

This place rocks.

Thanks everyone.

i had mine replaced last year under the TSB. i had corrosion inside the caliper right where the parking brake cable met, sure enough, it froze my parking brake.

now its starting to do it again, back to the dealer again!

I now have to pump the ebrake handle to get it unfrozen.

I just had our service bay do the TSB on my Mustang as it had froze one morning, during our wonderful Seattle weather. Turns out that the grommets were fine but there was an internal fault with my right rear caliper which made it act like the TSB when it got cold enough. Apparently it's been squeezing the rotor for a while now. They found severe scoring and heat cracks. So, i ended up getting a new caliper and rotor. Kind of weird but at least it's taken care of.
