So I have had my car a week and a half now and just went for the second fillup. Right after the pump turned itself off (with a full tank) some spilled out on the ground. I was like "dang" cause I thought it ran down the outside of the car. But it did not. It came from just inside of the bunmper/1/4 panal. Is this normal? Am I gunna have to shut the pump off just before its full? Btw it didnt happen the first time I filled up. Is this maybe an issue of how touchy our cars are with pumps? I didnt give it much thought after but just want to make sure something isnt wrong with my tank. Gauges and everything read fine.

try a new gas station, if that does not help I would say take it to you dealer. There a tons of posts about the gas tank issues, check them out and compare it to your problem.

I've been lucky... I haven't had that problem. There are several threads about the tanks not filling up all the way. it could have been an issue with the pump itself as vistablue mustang said. If the internal shut off on the pump doesn't work it won't know when to stop.

I have the same problem when my 06 fuel tank reaches full. I just watch the pump and when I start getting close to the amount of fuel I think it's going to take to fill up I just let up on the nozzle a bit to slow down the flow. Mine will also "puke" out fuel if after it reaches full I try to top it off some more.

Just picked my new 06 GT up on Sat. As the salesman was filling the gas tank up I wondered aloud if Ford had fixed the issues with it, at which point it puked about 1/2 cup of gas on the ground as the pump shut off!

As stated by NJ3, mine is touchy as well. As soon as it click when full don't try to put an extra cent otherwise it will end up on the ground.

So I always look at my cosumption to see how much is needed and as soon as I get near that number I go carefully and stop at the first click

Just so you know, I had the tank in my 05 changed out because it was not filling properly. Since then I have put over 20,000 km on the car and only once did the gas actually spill out from overfilling. In my case this was not a fault of the car, it was a problem with the shut off in the pump.

This happened to me three times when the car was only a few months old. I decided not to take it to the dealer and just live with it. I have officially owed my car for 1 year and I have not had a problem filling the tank for the past 9 months.

I've had the problem on all 3 of my fill-ups (QuikTrip, Shell, and Ford recommended BP). The first two dumped a little fuel on the ground, no big deal. But the last, at Shell, it dumped about 1/3 of a gallon on the ground. The gas came gushing back out of the tank and splashed everywhere. All 3 times I used the little lever that allows to click off when full. I have to fill up again today, so i'm going to see if I can hold it instead with success.

Just filled mine up for the 1st time today and the same thing happend. I held the handle on the pump until it shut off and then as I release the handle, gas falls out from under my car!!! Some actually ran down the outside of my car as well. If you look closely at the gas cap you will see a small hole. As the gas overflows it is going through the hole and out under your car. This really seems like a safety issue to me so I hope Ford gets on top of this one.

If you read the other posts you would have seen that yes, some of us have had the problem fixed. Also, do you keep going to the same gas station. If you do, try a different one and when you know you are close to filling it up try not to over fill. As for the drain hole, no, that is not a safety issue. It is designed that way so that if you do overfill (a little) it will drain out. It will not pour down over a hot muffler or anything like that.

I'm wondering whether I should take out my real video camera for the exhaust clips. I don't think the digital cam would do justice for the Borlas, especially for close-up sound. I had a firewire kit on my other computer...not sure about this one....darn. How could I get my Sony Cam video on for you guys???
do you have a usb2 hub on the video cam??

I have filled my 06 up about 7 times, Not one click off or spillage. I have done a few top off clicks of the pump with nothing spilling. Usually put about .2 more than what the car reads for fuel used.

Guys, I've got one of the 1st 05 GTs built -- #905 -- and occasionally the pump will click off within 10 seconds of starting the filling. I reposition the pump handle and finish filling the car. Also only 3-4 times has it cut off and spilled some out, but the samething has happened with my wife's 05 Maxima, my 02 Ranger, and our 98 Ram -- so it seems that sometimes the problem is with the station, not the vehicle.
I guess I've been very blessed in that only once has the Skaker refused to read a disc, occasional popping struts but very very seldom, and no other issues except the passenger dash rattle that seems common to the 05-06 models.
Hope your problem is resolved soon.

My 2005 is also doing this after the TSB for the fuel tank. I took it to the dealer that said it was unfortunately working as designed. This is probably why we had the fuel-tank TSB in the first place !

It will not do it at every gas station, only at those having a lot of flow. I usually look at how much gas I used (I have the IUP) and release oh-so gently around that number.
