I have been taking mine in to the same dealer for 2 weeks and Ford keeps closing out the claim with no explanation. So I went in on Wednesday, they retook the pics and the service advisor called Ford immediately. Ford approved the claim within 1 hour. I am getting the airbag assembly replaced as well as the seat side air bag replaced. My 05 now has 6,300 miles on it and the seams that split when the air bag explodes has started coming apart. These two claim items are costing Ford $1000 - $387 for the horn pad assembly and $590 something for the upper seat back cover!!! They wouldnt have had to pay it if quality was job 1!

I've got an 07 GT, and noticed my horn button emblem is starting to look pitted as well. I've had the car about 4 months, and put about 4,000 miles on it. It goes from my garage at home - to my covered parking spot at work. The only time this car has sat outside was before I bought it. I live in Houston, TX - so yeah - it's gets warm here.

That being said - I'm still EXTREEMLY happy with my purchase. So far, this is the only issue I've seen. ...and for me, it's not worth a trip to the dealer ...yet.

I sure am glad you guys brought this thread back. I had seen this last year right after buying my car. I have an 06 GT. Didn't think I had a "button" problem. I have had the car since Sept 06 and it was perfect till about 4 weeks ago.. Now it is really pitted... Glad to see you guys getting this replaced. I am still under warranty, so hopefully I won't have any problem getting it replaced next time in. I am cleaning my garage out also so I can get it in there. I live in the south and hate having my car sit out in the weather.

Thanks again for bringing this back and letting me know that many dealerships are replacing it.

Update

Just took mine in for an oil change, told them about the "pitting" on the emblem and no questions asked. They have it on order. Should have it replaced in the next few days.. It still amazes me that the entire airbag has to be replaced...

If you are in the Atlanta area, Allen Vigil Ford has been fantastic on anything I have brought to them on the car. Have not had to argue about one thing so far.

I actually had pitting on mine and fortunately the pitting pitted very evenly across so now it looks totally normal.

I don't know if everyone will expereince the same but it happened that way on mine.

Mine just keeps getting worst and looks terrible. From what I see on this tread, Ford hasn't fixed the problem. They just give you a new one which will do the same thing again. I'll just wait until my warrantee is just about up to get this done.

I'm not even sure what you guys mean by "pitted". Are there little holes or craters forming on it?

I've noticed this on mine now as well. Just showed up about a month ago.

I'm pretty sure when Ford gets the assemblies back from the dealer, they just pop in a new button and put it back in stock. Doesn't make sense to toss the whole bag.

I couldn't find this thread when I did a search. I noticed this on my 06 months ago. I thought it was something I did. My dealer is going to replace mine.

Mine looks more like bubbling than pitting. Plus the chrome parts aren't shiny anymore, like they're oxidized. 2007 GT, started about a month after I bought it.

I saw a thread on another forum (can't find the link) where someone just popped theirs off without replacing the whole airbag assembly. When the airbag deploys and the center post cover splits, the entire emblem goes with one of the sides, it doesn't split or burst. The thread on the topic had pictures of a fired airbag, so this isn't speculation.

I want a badass billet emblem, and I want to pay $19.95 plus shipping for it. There's a good opportunity for someone, here!!!! Paging Silverhorse Racing!!!

Mines doing the exact same thing as all of yours. Im going to be calling my dealership tomorrow to have them fix it. Do you think I can email them pics so they know what they need to do without actually having to bring my car in until they have the parts to fix it?

Mines been doing this for about a year. It's so advanced, there is not much shiny area left. If fact, its looking like a brushed finish with chrome spots now! I imagine within the next few months mine will have a brushed appearance which is fine by me so long as it looks even.

So how did those of you who got their's replaced manage to get Ford to order you a new one? I took my car to the dealership today and they said to bring it back tomorrow, at which time they are going to get digital pictures and send them to Ford in order to get it approved to fix under warranty since the whole airbag assembly will need to be ordered. They also said Ford may or may not approve it. Is this BS, or is this how you guys/gals got yours to be replaced?

This must be a ford deal because my 07 Explorer horn button is real bad. The horn button on the Explorer is the blue oval with the classic "ford" script in crome with a chrome oval ring inset in the oval. Same **** thing. Ford needs to fix this. It's really ****in me off.
