Exclamation Gas tank fixed but... is something missing?

I took the car in for the TSB gas tank fix. They replaced the tank but it was still clicking off during fill-up (fortunately, the dealer discovered this before giving me the car back and was determined to do the job right). It took them an extra day to resolve the problem and now it fills up just fine.

Question: It seems to me that before the tank was replaced, there was a small, spring loaded metal flapper inside the gas tank filler neck. Now it's not there. I drive quite a few cars and perhaps i'm confusing this feature this with another one.

Appreciate if someone could check their car and tell me if that flap should be there....thanks!

Mine had the "flapper" before but didn't after. I had it done over a year ago.

thanks...
I have a copy of the TSB and it doesn't mention anything about removing the flapper. Perhaps the fuel vents better now during fill-ups but I don't like the idea of removing something that was there in the original design.

My main concern is that this may affect the emission control system...maybe not passing smog tests sometime down the road??

Anyone else..?

Maybe Ford should have recalled the gas tanks... Toyota would have done it. I jest!

All of the new Fords I see have that flapper. I guess removing it helps prevent the filler from clicking off prematurely.
