Changing the tps on 4.0
Anyone know the reason ford tells you to heat the throttle body before changing the tps. Is this necessary? Would taking the car for a ride first warm it up enough as they said heat it to 130 degrees

i`m thinking its just because there is lok tite on the 2 small torx bolts, and they can break removing them. they can be a real wrist breaker by the time you get them out. a little heat will help them come out easier. course, thats just my guess

That does make sense. I saw the lock tite on the new screws. Ford is the only one that says you will need heat. I was thinking of maybe just taking it for a ride to get the engine hot as they said 130 degrees which isn't much

I hear ya. The heads snapped off even with the heat. Had to use heat and vice grips to back them out. Thought about saying the hell with it and going to get the BBK throttle body but I don't think it will pass emissions.

the bbk can be hard to deal with. wow, broke those bolts off. a heat gun would work to warm them up, but have to be carefull with all the plastic stuff. glad your running good again. that sensor can really reek havoc
