My Mom has an 05 GT which received in June of 05. Ever since she first got the car the automatic transmission has had a rattling problem when in the 40-50 mile an hour range. We have not taken the car to the dealership yet, but plan to do so in the near future. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem.

Does it kind of sound like something in the center console (cos I've had that)?

It sounds like its coming from the front of the auto tranny. Close to the engine.

I have an 06 that I bought in Sept 05. It had a rattle in it the day I bought it. It too sounded like it was from the transmission. It was not consistent. It was hard to tell where it was coming from. I waited a while before taking the car in ('til Jan 06) because I wanted to enjoy the car for a while before turning over to Ford Service.

I finally took it in on the first week of Jan. They had the car for 2 weeks. The repair order says they removed and replaced several interior components. They finally narrowed it down to the transmission bellhousing and replaced the Torque converter, and it seems to be okay.

However, I noticed today that my vent controls are not working correctly. Turn it to Floor, and it blows out of the upper vents. In fact, it seems to only be blowing out of the upper vents in any position except off. Me-thinks they did not re-install the HVAC correctly. So, I guess it's going back in the shop.

Oh, and my $100 Ray Ban sunglasses that I received as a gift 1 month prior and accidentally left clipped to the visor are missing.

MORAL: beware of the dealer service, but make full use of your warranty.

I had what I thought was a automatic transmission problem. It would make a moaning/groaning sound at 25 mph around 1500 rpms. I took it to my original dealer, they said it was "normal" so I lived with it until it really bothered me. Took it to Kearny Mesa Ford in San Diego (thanks George!) they knew exactly what it was immediately. Turns out it was an exhaust vibration resonating through a cross member. 24 hours later problem solved! They said it would get rid of 50-75% of it....it was more like 99-100% :-)

My baby had the same problem / noise.
Found a TSB covering the exhaust support with a fix.
Took her into the dealer.
That fixed most of the noise.
