2006 GT Conv VCT issues @ 60k
The FordHouse is requesting 4.7 labor hours to replace my VCT solenoid and rocker cover gasket on 2006 Mustang GT standard because they cannot change the solenoid without pulling the cover because they cannot pull it through the cover
and the warranty co says they only need 1.3 hours for replace vct and the gasket doesnt have to be replaced because it is not failed nor do they have to pull it to remove the part.
Does the rocker cover HAVE to be pulled in order to get to the vct? any suggestions on what the time or steps to repair should be.
Please help me get her outta jail, not free but as close as I can get lol.

welcome to TMS hope ya stick around after you get your problem fixed.
This vid is of a f150 fix but you get the idea.
I wonder if the warranty company has a full grasp of what need to be done or not, or if the dealership is trying to rip off a female customer

I will check labor times tommorow. Yes the cover has to be removed. Yes the gasket needs to be replaced.

I hope its not the latter, I just want resolution. Warranty rep says he's looking at specs and Ford tech he is stating whats physically needed... UGH.
videos like that are almost spiritual to watch.... thanks for sharing.

Fantastic
Straightfoward answer thank you sooo much...... NOW how do I convey this to the warranty guy who is "ACE" certified tech 20 years in business. Are there two different engines or something where he may be looking at the wrong one??

No not really... if you mean ase certified that means absolutely squat to me. Anyone can pass an ase test and not know how to turn a wrench. To become "ase" certified all you have to do is study a bookand take a test. You do not ever touch a car. Dealers don't even look at ase certifications anymore. Ask me how I know.
As long as you have a v8 you have an engine that you have to pull the cover off of it. They are all virtually the same engine. Yours will look just like the f150

Think I might have to agree with you on that Glenn lol. He barely mentioned my typo (what a gentleman lol) AND he laid it out for me to be able to go straight to the warranty co with some ammo. What a guy!!
Thanks Mr. T

I wouldn't say you're a gentleman, but I'll call you Mr. T!
Who exactly is your warranty through? I don't think I've ever heard anything good about aftermarket warranty companies. Nor do I know what you pay, but I'd think you'd be better off just putting that money in a savings account.
