2006 Automatic Shifter assembly

Thought I had to remove the T handle to remove my console - so I did. Now I can not get it re-assembled correctly. As it is shifter and steering wheel do not lock, and key cannot be removed. Have tried assembling several times but can not get to work correctly. Bought a Haynes Service manual - it shows nothing. Please help!

The manuals won't show anything because the assembly is not meant to be serviced, just replaced. Not sure how the handle effects the steering lock and such. I gave my stock shifter away a long time ago so I can't go and investigate it. Does the car start? I mean does the neutral safety work?

The Neutral Safety does not work, steering wheel lock does not work, and key can not be removed from ignition switch. If i disconnect battery and push up little white lever on lower right of shifter, then wheel looks and key can be removed. Once I reconnect battery it will unlock steering when I turn key, but key can not be removed and steering will not lock again. There is a plastic rod goes down through shift lever (see pic). The angle on the top mates to and angle in the T handle. Looks like when you push the left shifter button the shift should go down and release the shifter. But there has to be some kind of a trick to properly seating the rod in shift lever. Can't figure it out. Appreciate any suggestions.

Kevin! I highly doubt if anyone receives a response from hpb50 anytime soon, as his last forum activity was from over 8 years ago.
