A rare conversion. Started in 84, went to 90. In 88, there were 1015 of these made. The cars were prepared specially by Ford then sent to ASC (Automotive Specialty Corporation) for the rest of the conversion. Hoss, all Fox body convertibles were conversions.
Interesting that y'all have not heard of them. Makes it pretty darn rare, I guess.

thanks, Hoss.
That is what I started looking at when I posted. I am thinking that ASC in the shape it is in would go for ~$6K. I'm thinking my two cars are worth a lot more, so I am not seeing it as a good deal for me. I saw the car, thought that it was very cool, yet it is not turning out to be the value that I first thought.
Skip, my 85 vert is not original, ya know. Yet, I love driving it (had the wife and the middle daughter in it yesterday) and have thoughts on how to make it better. Pretty sure that will kill off the collectibility value of it.

I have heard of them and considered getting one way back when but they were relatively expensive then. If it were me I'd hold onto the car. It's distinctive, rare, and can't possibly go down in value from here.
While having something special always trumps having something common, I'm not excited about McLarens. They were mostly cosmetic upgrades, so you're not going to see the same collectability as you will with a Saleen or a Cobra. If you could find a fox body Saleen or Cobra, I'd see the wisdom in the trade a little easier.
You need to build a truly vintage car. Find a fastback to put your efforts into.

Thanks. I let it by. I did some research and found that I would be really shafting myself. The car may increase in value, but they weren't very desirable. It's just an appearance package plus a set of springs - nothing performance-wise that helps it out.
