S197 Body Kits Are Getting Out Of Hand. (Rant)
S197 Body Kits Are Getting Out Of Hand. (Rant)
So you own a company that has made it living on building conversion vans and trucks. You take tacky ground effects and put them on unsuspecting vans and trucks using double sided tape and think they look good afterwards. We are not talking about replacing bumper covers and rocker panels. You put the "body kits" on top of the factory stuff. So what is the next logical step? Lets do that to new Mustangs!!! Lets steal styling cues from other body kits, throw in a few ricer elements and use the highly original "500" name. Don't, forget to have plenty of double sided tape handy, we are going to need it.
Welcome the the thought process of Sherrod. A co-worker recently sent me come pics of the Sherrod 500S Mustang. There is one in Athens at the Ford dealer. These body kits are getting out of hand, and they are looking ridiculous. Every company seems to have something out for the new Mustang, and of course they ALL have to use the 500 name. The crazy thing is that they all pretty much look the same. Duck tail spoiler, side exit exhaust, quarter window louvers. They more that come out, the more ricer they look. The Sherrod kit has exhaust vents (fake) on the front fenders for God's sake.:gay: Its like they said, hey it kinda looks cool on the Super Duties, lets put it on a Mustang. Check out the pics and tell me what you think.

I think it looks fabulous! I cannot wait to do that to my beautiful white pony!
**** the 1982 Z28 for ever introducing ground effect kits in the first place...

From the side the lower panels look Ok. The rear end looks too flat. The window louvers are nice.
The vents behind the front wheels I don't like and the 500 is cheesy.
I don't like the stock GT's, too plain, they need some kind of air dams, etc. I really have no interest in the new body style, they are too big but yet they aren't any bigger on the inside.
To save $$$ Ford should start Re-Making the old cars. Say a 1986-93 Mustang pretty much just as it was. Or a 89-95 Tbird SC, just like it was. They already have the R&D money spent. I'd be more than happy to pay what $25k for a new Supercoupe or $19k for a GT convertible! :-)
Other things get cheaper, RAM is cheaper, faster and we have more of it. So, just go back to making the cars from the 80's again for the same price! :-)

I wouldn't take that bodykit if it were free. Well maybe I would but only to sell it.
