If I go back to do it a second time, if I hook the hanger through a hole that is already coated, will it make good enough ground to work?

If you want to try on some parts that are not crucial I have some steel legs for my smoker that we could try. They are painted with some cheap paint. Should blast of with no effort. We can move the clamp and ground around and try different areas.

Obviously there will be a little less adhesion. Also you can try pre-heating the part and then applying as well.

I started by playing around with scrap metal from the craft shop.

Thanks, I'll try that. The uncovered areas are very small.

Bill, thanks for the offer, but I'll try it on the real parts. I doubt the legs would fit in my oven anyways.

Are you using the oven in the kitchen? I can see sticking parts in Dorene's new convection oven. Think I would get to live in the shop.

Let me know when you are doing the powder coating. I would like to see that.

Nope, bought a Harbor Freight oven - about 24" x 24" inside area, so can't do really big pieces.

You can build your own for around $300 that is big enough for wheels, blocks etc. Just search for "DIY powder coat oven"

C'mon Mike. Your parts are never gonna rust. You know that...

Dap a bit of rustoleum on the bare spot.
