That depends on the heads you have. Any idea where they came from? Only the early heads need precise adjustments. I think 68 and up are positive stop.

Again, depends on what you have.
For what you think that you have, it should be zero lash, then torque to 18-22 ft/lbs. You also need to count the turns while doing this. You should get to the torque value between 1/4 and 1 turn. If not, you need to shim the rocker.

You adjust on the base of the cam. To determine, turn the engine in the correct rotation until the exhaust is just starting to open. You now back off the rocker on the intake, allow it a moment or two for the spring in the lifter to move it back to the neutral position, then tighten. Rotate the engine again watching the same intake rocker. It will open the valve, then close. When it is almost closed, the intake of the same cylinder is ready to be adjusted. Back off the nut, allow time for the lifter to go to neutral, then adjust.

Repeat until complete.

Some folks do not understand zero lash. I rattle or jiggle the pushrod up and down. When you get to the point that there is no play between the lifter and rocker (rocker tip is against the valve tip), that is zero lash. Also, you should adjust when the engine is warm, if possible.
