Ford has known there would be a demand for the Bullitt. As a matter of fact, burningman's BULLITT rendering was enthusiastically received by a Ford Rep in New York a couple of years back.
Ford is quite familiar with the "public's perception/approval" of the Bullitt. All they had to do was to visit TMS.

That article from Mustang News seems to bend the facts a bit, saying it will have stuff that was not on the spec sheet. Also I don't think Ford would have leaked the information. I had just been pestering our rep for months trying to get details on it, and he said it was fine to share the information that i was given, i'm pretty sure this is the real thing.
For those who missed Amy Boyd's comments last year regarding the Shelby GT pricing:

If truly each dealer will only receive 2 or 3 Shelby GTs, the market price (or eBay price) will move higher. All of a sudden, holding off for the Bullitt may look more attractive. Perhaps modifying the GTCS with FRPP for those who can't wait. Both Shelby and FoMoCo need to review the monster they are creating. Or, the next question, do they care? I wonder what AmyB thinks about this?

Yep, we care, but there is nothing we can do. I am contracted to sell thru ford. and on a side note, if you think that the Bullit or any other hot car will not have an Adm, then your not being realistic.
When the chargers came out, they did, this has happened for years, go to the camaro boards and see what they are predicting. It's supply and demand. Sorry, I wish there was an answer to this

I sure hope Ford has something else in store for this car or I'll be walking....................
I determined a few months back - after carefully analyzing all the info we had up to that point; reading between the lines; and looking at the rumors and innuendo - that the Bullitt wasn't going to be anything more than a "badge & sticker job." So I elected to buy a GT.
Now I don't know what sort of production realities Ford is dealing with (fleet averages, etc.), but there is a gaping hole in the Mustang lineup, and I find it a bit disgraceful the way Ford seems content to fill that gap using Shelby-mania as a substitute for substantive performance gains.
Well, honestly, you really shouldn't feel that way - the writing has been on the wall for several months now with respect to the Bullitt.
There are no surprises here. Disappointments? Yes. Bad decisions on the part of Ford? Yes. But no surprises. Ford has a consistent M.O. And they pretty much stick to. It's a big part of why they're going down the tubes. But that's another story.

Hey Hollywood. How's things on the B.C.coast? I'm at the other end of the country in the Maritimes.
You're right about no surprises, as I've owned enough Mustangs to appreciate your accurate appraisal of Ford's woes. I guess I was just a tad too hopeful that Ford would actually get it right this time. How dumb of me...........shoulda known better. Anyway, let's see what develops and what Ford could possibly add/do to make things somewhat better with the final product.

Well I do feel a bit let down. I was hoping for a more HP- at least 350. Some folks wanted larger and better brakes- but the current brakes are adequate for the modest HP increase that the Bullitt seems to be getting. Any more HP would require upgraded brakes and thus would increase costs.
So giving Ford some benefit of the doubt: I suppose they are trying to keep costs down and make the Bullitt affordable for a large segment of people.
One thing I don't get is....why no induction style hood like the '68???
I always thought the '01 Bullitt was odd...why a hood scoop? It looked nothing like the original.
I really hoped they were going to attempt a true retro look this time around. And that would mean a hood with dual induction.
Bottom line- I can probably live without increased HP. I'll save on added insurance costs and hell I'd probably kill myself with too much power
But if the car isn't going to be a more of a '68 replica I'm not sure I want to pay out the extra cash.
My 05 GT drives great and I love it. My lease is up in 08 and I thought my timing would be perfect for sliding into a Bullitt or Boss.
But I might just stick with getting another GT.

Don't hold your breath, goesfast.
All Ford projects, even as minimal as cosmetic upgrades, take monts to develop so what we see is what we'll likely get, unless a very slim and remote possibility that a curve ball has been thrown to misdirect the competition.

no offense airwolff...but what are your credentials? I just find it odd that no one else around here has any info on this except you. Not that I dont think that this info could be right, I would just like a little confirmation is all. Kevin, Jeff...are you hearing the same things?

Airwolf appears to be in a position where he is not compromising someone's confidence or their job. His credentials are irreverent. The information he has posted is legit.

I agree the Bullitt was partly a gimmick although it was a refined version of the standard GT. But the gimmick back fired as soon as the HP rating was officially down graded.
As for the 350/400 HP, it's best you don't bet your 401 on it.
1_BULLITT - Looks like i just read the article wrong, it looks fine, they just re-worded things a bit to sound better and didn't catch it as i was skimming through it on my break.
Codeman, I'm an employee at a Ford dealership, who just happens to be a Mustang fan, and more specifically, a Bullitt fan. And whenever our Ford rep was here, i would ask him about the Bullitt, and email him every month asking for new information. He knew nothing about it, but promised to let me know when he found out something. Recently he received this information and forwarded it to me. I asked if i could share the information, and he said it was fine to share it. If you're still feeling sceptical, here is a scan of the actual sheet i received. His name, my name, fax numbers, and some handwriting on the sheet have been whited out by me.

Neither is the present GT/CS edition. That is not to say Mustang fans were not expecting an upgrade performance wise on Ford's first Mustang SE of the present platform, proven by the disappointment which is proportionate with its original and current demand.

I think I would have been less disappointed if Ford had merely removed the foglights and spoiler from a GT, painted it DHG, slapped on some Bullitt badging, and installed a little different interior (black leather with DHG stitching, or something). They could have added $1500 to MSRP and I would have been a buyer. Disappointed, yes, but a buyer. I could have upgraded the brakes and engine output on my dime.
But now, they've added a meager power-adder, ruined the suspension, added a strut brace (who needs it?), and are going to add who knows how much to the MSRP to cover the costs and healthy markup for this stuff. I wouldn't be surprised to see a $10K addition to a GT for the Bullitt package.
It's really a shame that there are no car guys in the upper ranks at the domestic car companies these days. It's all people from different industries and bean counters.

Im totally convinced we will see 350/400 hp, just not until the new design and Challengers/Camaros arrive on the scene. I also am totally convinced we will have a twin turbo V6 in the new body car, with upwards of 300 hp. Not that I am all that excited about a hot V6. Im too old school, gotta have a V8.
