The following information regarding the 2003/04 Mach 1 provided by Scott Hoag, Ford Development Engineer at the time, now owner of MRT Technology.

Then there is the question of whether the Shaker actually adds performance to the Mach 1. According to Hoag (the owner of a '70 428 Cobra Jet Mach 1), the answer is absolutely.

"You have to be moving through the air before it works, so the dyno can't tell you that," Hoag explained. "Here's why I say yes. We have done some, I'll call it crude, evaluations on the dragstrip with the scoop open and functioning and blocked off. We had a noticeable mile-per-hour and elapsed time improvement having the ram air function.

"Of course, the trick is to control the air bypass by the air filter so the air doesn't go through the scoop and just push out through the fenderwell. Closing out the exit through the entrance is really how you can pressurize it and get a poor man's supercharger out of the scoop," he continued. "So it does work. It provides clean, fresh air and I will guess at about 80 mph or faster it creates some positive pressure at the air filter, which is accidentally about the same speed at which the '69-70 ram air started functioning."

The Shaker is positioned for function and aesthetics, although Hoag admits it could perform better if it was placed higher in the air stream.

How often are you going to be doing over 80 mph? If you are on a racetrack okay, if you are on the highway not much. Tickets will catch up to you and before long you won't be able to afford the insurance. I love hood scoops. I just don't see why people get so bent out of shape if they are nonfunctional. They look cool and are nostalgic. The Shaker is positioned for function and aesthetics, although Hoag admits it could perform better if it was placed higher in the air stream. Again in the middle of the hood is a very poor location for a hood scoop as when the air hits the front end it rises abruptly passing right over the center scoops. Ford engineers in 1967 realized this in wind tunnel testing and that is why the 68 Shelby had the scoops placed right up at the nose for maximum benefit. The other area Ford found for best air intake believe it or not was at the base of the windshield. Now the 2003-4 Mustang has a very angled nose which would benefit the hood scoop location far better than the current generation car. If benefit is seen at 80mph in a 2003 you'll need 90 or 100 to see it in a 2007. A low pressure area in the new Shelby for the air extracters is why the hood has the outward bulges versus the indented vents of the prototype. The hood is fairly even keeled like the 65-70 mustangs. The 2003 Cobra nose is very different as low pressure was easily created by the slant nose and indented air extracters.

Over 80? Everday if you live in Atlanta. Try 90 on average.

No matter what the air pressure is at the scoop, you're still taking in outside air as opposed to the engine bay hot air the '05's suck up... even with a "CAI".

Not sure why it's been asked 5 times on here. It clearly states in the Ford press release that
"The Shelby GT will be offered only as a coupe".

I would still like to see a 400 HP Mustang from the factory. With the New Camaro and Challenger coming in 2009-2010, Mustang could be lowest HP rated of the 3.

This is my first post here - I found this site while searching for info on the new Shelby GT. All these posts from Amy - Is this for real? Is she the real legit thing? If so, fantastic.

If I can special order a Shelby to my liking using whatever parts CS has available and it comes factory warranteed, authorized by CS and given a legitimate CS serial number - SIGN ME UP!

I was going to pass on the current 'stang and get the Challenger, but this Shelby stuff is getting me excited. As soon as I can order the following shelby, I'll sell my '65 Clone and get myself a new real one!

Blue with white stripes (painted, please)
ducktail rear like the GT500ish
CS6 Hood
Everything else can remain current Shelby GT and I'll be happy. - I even like the wheels.

As Amy said, "It should be the Shelby you want" I sure hope there is some muscle behind that comment.

That's assuming nothing changes engine-wise in the Mustang. Rumors has it that the Mustang will get the new Hurricane engine.

(Off Topic) Think this pic is a clay model of a (potential) new Bullitt? Or, has this already been discussed (apologies for wrong forum and if so):

You have to be a little careful with Wiki. I've found articles in the past that had incorrect information in them.
