Window Problems

Anyone experiencing problems with the up and down function of your windows. Both of my windows were clunking on the way down and would not go up automatically. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it...well, I'm assuming they just held the switch up/down for 5 seconds to reprogram the stops. Only problem is that when the car sits for a couple of days, it goes back to the same problem. I then hold the switch on the up and down position for a few seconds and it reprograms whatever module controls that function. Not sure which module controls that function, but it must be having a problem leaking power and it is not retaining the memory...probably a capacitor, a battery or something. And yes, I've erased the setting by disconnecting power while the window is going down.

On my car I have heard the clucking sound as it went down and my window would start down then go back up by itself. I have not had the dealer look at this but maybe I should before my warrantty expires at the end of the month.

If that's the problem, the manual is surely the answer. What I heard in the original post was something a bit different: the problem comes back after a period of disuse. Sounds as if some memory-maintenance part of the system is losing power to an extent sufficient to cause the effect.

If one does it, there are probably others, as well. Ford must know. Push them.

You might check the Window Control Switch
(instructions attached as pdf)

You are correct, the problem is not with the reprogramming function, but with the fact that it does not hold memory for longer than a few days.

Wonder if anyone else has had this problem.
