This is gross overkill, IMO. You do not need to change out oil at 175 miles, nor 1000 miles. Regular oil will not harm your engine at all - that's what it comes with. Do regular oil changes including filter and you will be fine. The synthethic oil thing is over-sold IMO. Others may disagree.

Factory fill is 5w20 synthetic blend oil, using "regular oil" as long as it meets Ford specs will cause no issue.

Well said - as long as it meets Ford specs you should be good to go!! When my GT/CS gets in I'll probably change the oil at 1K miles then stick with the regular maintenance intervals....I do admit to using Mobil 1 full synth though - probably overkill - but it does give me peace of mind.

for a first oil change I would wait till around 1500 miles. syn oil should last at least 8k miles.

Uh Oh....here we go again...but I'm going to have to say it...Fram is one of the WORST rated oil fliters out there....use the Motocraft filter available at the auto parts stores or other preimum filters...stay away from Fram and the Fram "rebadged" filters......let the wars begin.....

Every 5 months or 5000 miles I use Ford Racing CM-8731-FL820 filter and Mobil One 5-20w!

175 miles is overkill, I am going to wait for 500 for the first just to get the metal filings out, then 1000, then onto regular maintenance . Some people think the 500 is overkill, but as your engine breaks in there is a lot of metal floating around just want to get it out before it gets somewhere it does not belong. Also what kind of stuff is in there from the factory?

while we are talking about oil filters can someone explain to me what makes one filter better than the other? Particularly the Ford Racing one, what is so special about that?

Go to Wal mart and buy the Motorcraft oil 5-20 synthetic blend 5qt bottle = $9.52 Motorcraft oil filter = $3.28 (my 98 Cobra 4.6l & 06 F150 5.4l use filter #820S they should be the same).

I just did my 500 mile oil change today. I agree on the 500 mile oil change. I heard a lot of folks stating that they lots of metal in that first change.

The thing that shocked me was that the car was not full at 6 quarts. Looks like it needs 6 1/2...I put in mobil 1. Probably overkill, but better safe than sorry in my book. I used the mobil 1 oil filter as well.

What comes from the factory is synthetic blend. 5w/20. That weight is hard to come by where I live.

Well when they use them on their racing program vehicles, it's good enough for me.
